Reviews Summary
Tast Catala offers a delightful Catalan dining experience with beautifully presented and flavorful small plates, praised for its signature dishes like octopus and croquettes. While the food and service are generally excellent, some diners note a subdued atmosphere, leading to a less vibrant dining experience compared to other tapas bars. Despite the higher price point, many feel the quality of ingredients and culinary execution justify the cost for a special occasion.
"Tast Catala is a delightful Spanish restaurant on King Street in Manchester, and our recent visit was a pleasure. We ordered six small plates, which turned out to be ample for two for lunch. Each dish was beautifully presented and packed with authentic flavors that truly showcased the richness of Spanish cuisine.
The highlights included a variety of fresh ingredients and traditional recipes that left us wanting more. To accompany our meal, we enjoyed a jug of sangria, which was refreshing and perfectly balanced, adding a lovely touch to our lunch experience.
The restaurant’s ambiance was warm and inviting, complemented by a friendly staff that provided excellent service throughout our visit. Overall, Tast Catala is a must-visit for anyone looking to explore delicious Spanish dishes in a welcoming setting. I highly recommend it!"

"Had a visit to Tast in my plans for over a year. So before I went last night, I read the reviews. Some were complimentary, and obviously some less. Thankfully the negative ones didn’t put me off, because it was a visit I will remember for a long time
On entering this King St establishment, we were greeted by Elena ( host manager ) who showed us straight to our table by the window. Promptly followed by our server Pete who gave us all the advice we needed on ordering our tapas first and the larger meals later. He went through the menu giving us his expert views on the food and how great the meat fish and rice course were.
All the food we were served was amazing and tasted really good. The atmosphere in the downstairs area was very pleasant and unlike some restaurants you could hear yourself talk. Adela the bar supervisor, made a point of checking we had enough to drink in terms of water and beers.
Sam the restaurant manager came over for a chat, to see if we’re having a good time which having been there for over two hours we definitely were.
So a big thank you goes out to Elena Adela Pete and Sam for making out first visit to Tast very special

"Everything good , great Ribero del Duero wine, with the usual obscene UK mark up. Good ham pan Catalan, cod croquettes and their famous foie tras donuts. Only let down was the main course , the veg and potatoes beautiful but the bone in steak too a while to come and when it did, half of the steak was beautifully cooked medium rare as requested but the other end of the steak was either medium well or well done , including the best part , the bone, that was cremated. Had we not had a football match to go to, I’d have sent that dish back , which of course a good restaurant like this would I’m sure have accepted ."

The best tapas places in Manchester city centre and beyond
Not too far up the main Deansgate strip and just a short turn onto King Street, you’ll find Tast: a Catalan tapas restaurant co-owned by Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, and overseen by multi-Michelin-star-winning executive chef, Paco Pérez. Put simply, the food is as top-notch as the footy. Specialising in specific cuisines from the municipality’s main regions – Barcelona, Girona, Lleida and Tarragona – we consumed a lot of boquerones (anchovies), cod fritters and prawns here, but you can never go wrong with their top cuts of jamón ibérico and charcuterie boards either.

There was a Manchester City team effort behind the opening of stylish new Catalan restaurant Tast Catala on King Street. City manager Pep Guardiola, along with Blues chairman Ferran Soriano and director of football Txiki Begiristain, were revealed as investors behind the restaurant, which showcases the cuisine of acclaimed Michelin Star winning chef Paco Perez. Tast Catala is bringing a taste of Catalan to Manchester, thanks to being run by Michelin-starred chef Paco Perez. In a beautiful, modern dining space, it promises fare inspired by Barcelona made from carefully sourced ingredients and often fired up in its charcoal oven (think seabass 'El Txiringuito' and a 40-day-aged sirloin steak). Boasting one of the largest collections of Catalonian wines in the city, alongside international bottles, it's the ideal place to enjoy patatas bravas, and tuna belly with black olives and piparra alongside a glass of red.
The Best Restaurants in Manchester
Tast is a restaurant that aims to bring a bit of Barcelona to Manchester through its fun and flavourful Catalonian take on tapas. It’s the tapas dishes and Catalan rice that unsurprisingly shine the brightest but, that being said, there’s also a few rogue options that are worth exploring. The wagyu brisket bao bun, for instance, might sound like something that belongs on the menu of an Asian fusion restaurant in 2011 comes zhuzhed up with a rich fricando sauce that has just enough Spanish swagger to make it work.

Tast on King Street is as close to an authentically Catalan experience as you can get in the Rainy City, a corner of Spain transplanted here – in part – thanks to its co-owner, Pep Guardiola. A dual venue, you’ll find Tast on the ground floor providing a uniquely Catalan tapas experience, while Enxaneta on the top floor offers up the chance for Chef Paco Pérez to serve a menu with a distinct fine-dining feel. Either way, you’ll enjoy indulgent Catalan treats, or ‘tastets’ to give them their proper name.

Executive chef Paco Pérez, who holds five Michelin stars across seven restaurants around the world, is behind the Catalonian menu at Tast. ‘Tastets’ are similar in size to tapas, and beg to be matched with the all-Spanish wine list, Catalan gins and out-there cocktails (try vodka with apple, black garlic and basil oil). Order a couple of tastets each, then move on to shared rice platters, or the likes of Iberian pork presa and bone-in sirloin steak cooked in a charcoal oven.

Tast, on well-heeled King Street, has been devised by Catalonian chef Paco Pérez, from Girona's Michelin-star Restaurant Miramar, with backing from Manchester City royalty Pep Guardiola and Ferran Soriano, who, on arriving in the city, felt bereft at the absence of their home cuisine. They are bereft no longer. Basics including charcuterie and croquettes are beyond reproach, and the octopus with potatoes and octopus and mojo rojo and mojo verde is stunningly good.

Being of fishy stock myself, I was always going to love the madness of this new dish at Tast – the increasingly impressive Catalonian restaurant on King Street. Both Gordo and Deanna, who know a thing or two about food, reckon the new fine-dining effort on the top floor, Enxaneta (pronounced: En-zan… En-cha… oh f*** knows) is the best the city has produced in some time. “Up there with The French,” says Gordo.
