What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Chough Bakery is celebrated for its award-winning traditional Cornish pasties, often described as the best in Cornwall, and its prime location on Padstow's harbor. While many praise the delicious fillings and friendly service, some reviews mention inconsistencies in pastry quality and a decline in the uniqueness of certain items like scones.
"Great position on the quayside. Very busy at peak season but you get served very quickly by the polite staff. Good choice of pasties, very tasty. One of the best in Cornwall. Very good seasoning and the meat is nice and moist. Found the pastry a little dry, non the less, still great pasties."
Paul Lloyd
"The scones used to be large and distinct. We got some every year. Where have they gone? Very small now taste like Tesco's at twice the price. The pasties no longer lead the field so we shop elsewhere"
John Clayton
"The gluten free cheese pasty was ok but not very tasty. Not made by them and frozen. The normal cheese and onion pasty was small for the price and again not that tasty. Overall rather disappointed. Will not bother again."

The best places to eat and drink in Padstow, chosen by chef Paul Ainsworth
A post shared by The Chough Bakery (@thechoughbakery) on Nov 22, 2012 at 10:52am PST. "Rob and Elaine Ead at The Chough Bakery do a fantastically traditional, peppery Cornish pasty. It’s off the scale, with Cornish clotted cream in the middle. It’s not rich or sickly, you don’t notice it, but it just adds a creaminess. It’s a proper bakery with the classics, flapjacks and saffron buns, which is indigenous to Cornwall - it’s my go-to.". 3 The Strand, Padstow PL28 8AJ; 01841 533361; cornishpasty.com

Where to find the best Cornish pasty in Cornwall
Elaine and Rob Ead introduced Padstow to The Chough Bakery 40 years ago, and it’s still going strong today in one of Cornwall’s biggest tourist destinations: Padstow harbour. The steak comes from Williams and Son, an award-winning high street butcher just up the River Camel in Wadebridge. I marked their steak and stilton pasty very highly, and still make a beeline for it every time I’m in Padstow.
