Set on Padstow’s harbourfront, Elaine and Rob launched Chough Bakery some 40 years ago. With a wide range of delicious wares including some of the best Cornish pasties in Cornwall – traditional steak, steak and Padstow ale, steak and blue cheese, chicken, bacon and cheddar, triple cheese and onion and vegan pasties with chickpeas and merlot – deciding what to get for lunch is a tough choice!. Next day, find a quayside bench to people-watch and eat proper Cornish pasties (family run Chough Bakery scoops copious awards), or a generous portion of Stein’s fish and chips – careful, those gulls are daring!. Elaine and Rob Ead introduced Padstow to The Chough Bakery 40 years ago, and it’s still going strong today in one of Cornwall’s biggest tourist destinations: Padstow harbour. The steak comes from Williams and Son, an award-winning high street butcher just up the River Camel in Wadebridge. I marked their steak and stilton pasty very highly, and still make a beeline for it every time I’m in Padstow.

The team at Chough Bakery sell 1,000 pasties a day at the height of summer, so they’re clearly doing something right. They stuff pastry with a mix of steak, potatoes, turnips and cream and mark it with the trademark Cornish side crimp. These are some of the best pasties in the south-west, and no trip to Padstow is complete without trying one.

Chough has been a family-run bakery for over 30 years and their awards and fine attention to detail make this is a must visit when you come down. PS: The best ice cream in town is to be found at The Chough Bakery (yes, bakery). Simply superb, and a huge contrast to the "famous Cornish ice creams" and "made with local farm cream" rubbish.

The normal cheese and onion pasty was small for the price and again not that tasty. Overall rather disappointed. Will not bother again.
