What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Diners frequently praise Cleaver & Wake for its exceptional service, stunning setting, and sophisticated modern British cuisine. While many rave about the Sunday roast and fixed-price lunch deals, a few have noted that portion sizes can be small and flavors sometimes plain, not always meeting high expectations for a fine dining establishment.
"Wonderful restaurant! The staff are attentive and helpful and the food is delicious and seasoned well. I love the open kitchen. The only slight negative was that the music was quite loud, but there was an event on next door so that may be why, which the staff did inform us about a week before. Really looking forward to going back."

"I had a birthday dinner at Cleaver and Wake with my friends for the first time. The place was nice and pretty, the waiters were friendly.
However, the food didn’t reach my expectations. The portions were small and the taste was plain. Personally, it was a good experience, but I rather go somewhere else with better quality of food.
(Also it was my birthday I thought they would give something special? But it was just a card I went to other places they would give me some free drinks and a small birthday cake)"

"We dined here for an occasion and Cleaver & Wake went above and beyond to give us the best experience possible. I want to extend my thanks especially to Jemimah, who we were particularly impressed with as her service was outstanding. She made us feel very at home there with her warming personality which stood out and saw to any needs we had, including dietary requirements. The food was fantastic - from the complimentary croutons and truffle butter to the basil sorbet. A stand out dish was the pumpkin risotto. We had the Shiraz wine between us, which was very good. All round, a great evening and an excellent fine dining experience - we will be back for more!"

World Service – Fine Dining – Nottingham
More recently, having heard some good reports, and for a Cleaver & Wake comparison I thought I should revisit. I’ve always liked the setting. The main dining room is a narrow but spacious modern style that has a lot of broadly East Asian influences.
