Reviews Summary
French Living is celebrated for its authentic French cuisine and cozy, rustic atmosphere, making it a beloved spot for pre-theatre dinners. While many praise the well-cooked dishes, particularly steaks and fries, and the friendly service, some reviews mention the need for a refresh in decor and occasional inconsistencies in food quality or portion size.
"I am very reluctant to share my outstanding experience of French Living, for fear that it will become even more popular! This authentic French restaurant is our go-to for pre-theatre dinner in Nottingham; the location is perfect for the Theatre Royal and Concert Hall.
The service is friendly, the menu has something for everyone, and our choices were delicious.
We look forward to our next visit."

"Cute little place
Well cooked food.
Portions aren't big, but depends on your appetite, worth a visit.
Good for a pre-theatre dinner
You are looking at around £50 for 2 main courses and 2 drinks."
Salena Marshall
"What a delightful restaurant with delicious French food. Pricing is very reasonable and there are also course deals available. Ordered a steak dish and whilst they didn't ask how we'd like the steak, it was cooked to perfection! The venue is decorated in a rustic manner, creating a really nice cozy atmosphere. Even though the restaurant is on a relatively busy street with a lot of bus traffic, couldn't hear a thing from outside!"

French Living | French Restaurant
French Living comprises a shop/café stocking groceries and provisions, where you can refuel with a cup of ‘grand crème’ coffee in between browsing the shelves. Below stairs is the bistro, a dyed-in-the-wool red-brick cellar done out in the style of a provincial family brasserie (complete with rustic furniture, gingham cloths and French songs playing on the radio). Menus change with the seasons and the aim is to serve ‘meals that make French people feel at home and British friends remember their holidays’.

A table at Restaurant Sat Bains may be the dream booking for any foodie visiting Notts (see below), but chef Alex Bond’s Alchemilla, opened last summer, is a similarly singular experience – and more affordable, too. Even the building is special. A 19th-century garage for horse-drawn carriages, all vaulted ceilings and exposed brick, it’s an unusual and chic cocoon, now augmented with living moss walls and a large open kitchen.
