A simple shack-like building with a wooden roof, this tiny restaurant is listed as the number one place to dine in Oban. Situated right on the pier, the seafood sold at Oban Seafood Hut is as fresh as it gets. It is cheap with large portions and has an international fanbase; people from across the globe have travelled to sample the goods in this little hut.

In my humble opinion, there is no better example of said fresh fish than that which is found at the Oban Seafood Hut, known locally as the Green Shack. Established by local fisherman John Ogden, this place has been dishing out sublime seafood dishes for more than 30 years. “It’s our first day back trading in six months today,” said co-owner Marion Ritchie.

Serving arguably the best-value seafood in Oban, the late John Ogden's quayside fish shack is a local legend. Look for a green-painted shed on the pier, then join the line of cognoscenti waiting for simply sautéed scallops, grilled langoustine, and lobster, oysters, and mussels. Freshness is everything here.

Oban Seafood Hut is the kind of no-frills hidden gem everyone wishes they could find on holiday. The tiny shack has alfresco shared tables, where diners sit elbow-to-elbow cracking fresh crab claws. It’s unbelievably cheap, too.

Halfway up Scotland’s west coast, it’s a very likeable resort town, encompassing isle-speckled vistas, a whisky distillery, walks in Dunollie Wood and the Colosseum-like folly that is McCaig’s Tower — not to mention some of Britain’s finest cooked mussels, at Oban Seafood Hut. This is the case for Oban Seafood Hut, an unassuming local gem situated right by the ferry port for the freshest seafood you’ll find in Oban. No visit to Oban would be complete without swinging by the little green shack on the Railway Pier. This is arguably Scotland’s finest fresh seafood stall: their famous prawn sandwich hits the spot for lunch on-the-move, while the seafood platter of lobster, langoustines, mussels, prawns and more is a deliciously good value treat.

If you want to taste Oban’s locally caught seafood, you can’t beat the Oban Seafood Hut on the ‘railway pier’. Open daily 10am-6pm, it’s quite an institution and, from its unassuming shed-like counter, serves fresh Lobster, Crab, Scallops, Mussels and the best prawn sandwiches we’ve ever tasted. It’s great value too.

One thing I would say is that the addition of the crabsticks, tiny peeled prawns and chewy squid cheapened the experience and was unnecessary. It was clearly not local or fresh. The muscles, squat lobster, langoustine, pickled herring, hot smoked salmon and crab were more than enough.

One place that we'd recommend is the Oban Seafood Hut (Green Shack) right on the pier. It's a very casual place where you walk up to the outdoor counter and select which fresh seafood you'd like. We had the fresh oysters and sat at their outdoor picnic table shared with other guests.

For a casual dining experience, head to The Seafood Hut located on the pier. This charming little hut serves locally caught produce and is only open during the months of April-October. The menu changes daily depending on the catch of the day, ensuring that the food is always fresh.

The Original Seafood Hut, adorably nicknamed ‘The Green Shack’ is next to the ferry terminal. Made famous; to us at least, from a (Vice Content created) Munchies episode, we knew we were in for the cheapest, freshest and delicious seafood feast.

Because I am not familiar with it, I saw a relatively large restaurant and went in. I remember that Qingkou is very delicious. Other dishes are good, but the taste is not clear, indicating that this is the case.

The Little Potting Shed is famed for producing some of the best Vegan and Vegetarian options in Argyll and Bute. Other options include BAAB which boasts incredible views across the harbour and The Olive Garden.

For a really authentic experience, don’t miss a visit to the Oban Seafood Hut, also known as ‘The Green Shack.’ From oysters to lobster and langoustines, everything is super fresh and fuss-free.

It’s a simple concept, fresh seafood, no-frills, affordable prices. It is obvious that this place is popular. Not much seating but sitting on the side of the harbour adds to the experience.

Delicious Lobster, Scallops, Crab and more prepared on the spot or to take home. It doesn't get much better than this for the seafood lover!. Take away/outdoor service area.
