"We loved this little hotel. It’s so clean and perfectly located. The best thing was the friendly welcome after a day of traveling. We were able to relax in the magnificent whiskey bar with fish and chips from the restaurant next door. John was amazing, from running our bags up the stairs to choosing an outstanding whiskey flight. thank you!"

Chrissy Russillo

"I was upgraded to a lovely deluxe room. Well appointed and clean, with tea and coffee facilities. I booked a room only rate but was pleasantly surprised to receive a complimentary continental breakfast delivered in the morning. The hotel itself was quiet but there was a lovely whisky bar next door with an outside beer garden. Friendly staff made my stay very pleasant. Would definitely stay again."

A history of Edinburgh, explained in 10 dishes

The spirit once known as Uisge beatha—Gaelic for “water of life’—can be traced to Scotland and Ireland hundreds of years ago. These days, it may be mostly produced in the rural Scotland depicted on bottle labels: fresh Speyside streams, misty Highland valleys, and rocky, windswept islands, but the city of Edinburgh once had several (and many more illicit) distilleries, and was an essential catalyst for the global success of the whisky industry. Whisky production in Edinburgh dates back at least to 1505, when James IV of Scotland granted the Guild of Barbers and Surgeons a monopoly for distilling in the city.
