What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Steam Packet Inn is widely praised for its fabulous food, friendly service, and beautiful riverside setting. Many highlight the quality of the real ales and the welcoming atmosphere. While most experiences are overwhelmingly positive, some guests have noted issues with flies when dining outdoors or found certain dishes to be overly salty.
"What a wonderful place to visit & eat. There was 7 of us in our group celebrating 2 birthdays. The restaurant menus had some very tempting choices but I opted for something from the Specials board 'Pork, Black Pudding Mash, Spinach & a Mushroom & Mustard source'. My food was "WONDERFUL" plentiful real food but not a crum left.
Staff were great & very helpful 👍👍👍👍👍"

"Visited for drinks on a Friday evening. Pub is in a lovely setting on the banks of the river dart. Spacious outdoor seating on a terrace overlooking the river. Very tranquil and relaxing when we visited as pub was not too busy. Would definitely call again."
Stuart Mullaney
"Sat in quant dog friendly pub area across from more formal dining room. Very good food was clearly made by a chef who created novel twists on traditional fare. Will return."

10 of the best south Devon pubs with beer gardens | Devon holidays
The Dart is tidal in Totnes, and drinkers and diners on the Steam Packet’s roomy riverside terrace often spot a grey seal that scoops up salmon coming over the weir at high tide, or just pops its head up and takes a look around. The town sits at the bottom of a steep-sided valley, like many places in the South Hams, but a quirk in the contours of the residential area west of this pub means the early evening sun often strikes the loungers and tables. Much loved by locals and visitors alike for its classic food (pork belly, beef bourguignon, scampi), this is the perfect pub to conclude a walk along the river from Sharpham or a wander around the bottom end of town.
