Reviews Summary

The Peterboat is highly praised for its delicious food, particularly the signature cockle chowder and fish dishes, and its friendly, attentive service. Diners love the stunning estuary views and the lively atmosphere, especially with live music. While some find prices slightly high, most agree the experience and quality are well worth it.

"Arh The Peterboat, aways ceases to amaze! I haven't been in a while, and the place just gets better and better. The quality of services was just 5 stars. From when we arrived at front of desk, to being seated, to being told who our drinks will be ordered with, followed by our lovely waitress Angela, who took our food orders. Not only was Angela impressive, with her knowledge, she went that extra mile to accommodate us. She also made sure that all the tables around her were accommodated. When people left, she quickly and efficiently reset the tables for the next customers. The service was unbelievably quick, and food was very nice. Half chicken with mash and seasonal veg extremely good. There must of easily been two hundred people there on our visit today for the few hours we was there, the atmosphere was lovely. Well done, Peter Boat, your staff are absolute credit to you, you should be very proud of them....and thank you."

"First visit. Came for a meal. Located in the centre of the main road through Leigh-on-Sea. Traditional pub to the front with smart interior and restaurant to the side. Huge beer garden to the side. This place is very popular (supposed to be a great sea food restaurant, and it was) and does get very busy on sunny days, thankfully we had booked a table inside in advance. Seated in a nice little conservatory at the rear with nice breeze blowing through which was brilliant on such a hot day. The menu had a great choice of dishes at slightly high prices but worth paying a little extra for. We ordered three main courses to share. The chowder was stunning, a specialty of the restaurant, served in a large bread bun, the bread absorbed the flavours and sauce, gorgeous. The fish pie was faultless. The fish on the fish and chips was a tad watery, my only criticism.Drinks choice was good, at reasonable prices. The service was perfect, welcoming, friendly and helpful. This is a solid 5 star restaurant bordering on 6 stars. I would definitely recommend a visit here but make sure to book a table if coming at peak times or sunny days."

"Such a vibe! We went to this one on a Sunday evening and it was such a wonderful unexpected find. There was live music, everyone was dancing, while enjoying a drink watching the sunset. For a minute it didn't feel like the UK.

It was busy but the team were so welcoming and found a way to find us a table as quickly as possible. We went for a light snack and ended up having the Sunday roast. Best Sunday roast I've ever had which is crazy to say.

10/10 Recommend!"

Southend's Top 10 Pubs For Grub (According to TripAdvisor)

The Peterboat is always a popular choice, particularly in summer months, due to its prime position on the coast at Old Leigh in Southend, a small fishing village with an “olde world” charm. Many reviews on TripAdvisor talk about views of the estuary whilst drinking or dining and this has to be one of the biggest pulls for The Peterboat. You may experience a wait for food during busy hours at this pub, but it’s well worth it.

It's to be expected that when thinking of Southend-on-Sea, Adventure Island is one of the first activities that comes to mind. But consider this, it's free to enter and roam around and it oddly adds to the charm of the area.
