El Greco serves up Greek cuisine with a few Italian and Spanish influences thrown in. The restaurant takes its name from the great Mannerist painter El Greco who travelled through Spain and Italy. It is spread over two floors of a historic building in the middle of Stratford.

Whilst Stratford-upon-Avon is undeniably picturesque, it’s always nice to be transported to the Mediterranean once in a while, and that’s the proposition over at El Greco on Rother Street. This Greek restaurant, nestled in one of the town’s most beautiful historic buildings, offers delightful views over the Market Square and Minories. A family-affair, chef Patron Dimitrios is at the stoves here, with his wife running the dining room and son also currently learning the trade, peeling spuds and washing glasses.

El Greco is an independent Greek bolthole on Rother Street, cozy and intimate, with whitewashed walls and glittery tiled walkways. It is a true family affair with Chef Patron Dimitrios leading the kitchen, his wife overseeing the front of house, and their son, Olympios, on glass washing!. Their 22-dish Hellenic banquet is a feast for the eyes with oven-warm pitta dipped in salty taramosalata and creamy tzatziki, spanakopita spinach parcels, morish chargrilled halloumi cheese, Fasula, and calamari squid rings.

Unfortunately my bank balance hasn't given me the option to try every restaurant in town but I have tried quite a few including the best Thai food I have ever had at The Giggling Squid, British indoor and outdoor dining at Cox's Yard which backs onto the River Avon, Greek food at El Greco and a great sunday roast at The One Elm. Other restaurants that I am still eager to try is a new Thai Restaurant Sabai Sabai and 33 The Scullery which both have great reviews on Tripadvisor.

I’d been recommended El Greco by a few people over on Twitter, so we headed there for a meze-style late lunch. The sun was still shining, so we took a table outside – the perfect way to enjoy our mixed meze. I’m always a sucker for pitta bread dipped in taramasalata, and the generous portion provided enough for some serious scooping.

Greek Restaurant El Greco is near to the principal shopping area of the town. The restaurant is over 2 floors but has some very nice outdoor seating to enjoy the sun out the front. El Greco’s outside seating area is dog-friendly and a great place to enjoy an alfresco lunch, Greek-style.

If you’re looking for a delicious Mediterranean meal, look no further than El Greco. They serve up some of the best Greek food in town, and their portions are incredibly generous. Plus, their prices are very reasonable, making it a great option for budget-minded diners.

We were thrilled by the variety of delicious, fresh and flavourful options. The grilled halloumi, moussaka, and spanakopita were outstanding, and the staff was so friendly. Beautiful ambiance and warm hospitality made it even better.

Booked as they had extensive gluten free menu, which turned out to be excellent. Party of 9 we were given our own room. Excellent food, excellent service.
