What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The British Oak has undergone a positive transformation under new ownership, with many praising the warm atmosphere and delicious food at reasonable prices. Diners particularly love the desserts and the welcoming, dog-friendly environment. However, some have experienced issues with food quality on Sunday roasts and mixed grills, as well as occasional long wait times.

"Having visited here many years ago, I was a little hesitant about returning due to its past reputation. However, I’m so glad I gave it another go! The atmosphere has completely transformed, thanks to the new ownership, and now it truly welcomes everyone. The food is absolutely delicious, and at this rate, we’re working our way through the entire menu! The pricing is very reasonable, too.
But the real star has to be the desserts – I’ve yet to find one I don’t love. It’s a fantastic pub with a warm and inviting environment, run by passionate owners who clearly care deeply about both the place and their customers. My friend and I now visit every Wednesday to enjoy a lovely dinner, catch up on life’s latest gossip, and join in the quiz – it’s always such a great time.
Really top-notch all around! Keep up the amazing work, guys! ❤️"

"Went in for a Sunday roast at 1pm, there were plenty of free tables.
We ordered 2 roasts at the bar. Despite it being quiet they took a long time to arrive.
The beef wasn’t pink and quite gristly but tasted alright. The turkey was good apparently.
The veg was a real let down. 2 very small roast potatoes, odd tasting mash (maybe the butter isn’t real butter?), and a poor portion of carrots that looked like they’d been sitting under the lights too long, cabbage & green beans.
Great gravy which saved the day! Overall the meal was OK but I wouldn’t recommend it and won’t be going back."
