Reviews Summary

Rusty Shears is celebrated for its charming, quirky atmosphere and delicious, well-prepared food, particularly its breakfasts and cakes. Diners love the vintage decor, the dog-friendly courtyard, and the extensive gin selection. However, some have experienced slow service and a lack of organization during busy periods, leading to longer wait times.

"We’ve visited Rusty Shears a few times now.
Do not go here if you want fast food!
Tea is served properly in China tea pots with loose leaf tea. The menu is varied but the breakfasts ( and bacon butties) are really good.
They are dog friendly and when I asked for an extra sausage they asked if it was for our dog and fetched out two cool sausages cut up ready for our dog.
On our last morning in Whitby we walked past Rusty Shears and our dog turned a sharp left straight into their courtyard! She is a fan as well !"

"Although the place has a nice atmosphere, I was disappointed. From the moment we sat down at the table We waited 20 minutes for someone to take our order, and when we wanted to do it, we found out that almost everything was already sold out and only sandwiches were left. And not even all the sandwiches, just some of them After placing our order, we waited 40 minutes for two sandwiches and fries. Yes 40 minutes. Unfortunately, the staff seemed unsure what to do. Everyone was doing a little bit of everything.Lack of organization and someone to manage who should do what."

"A hidden gem of a cafe on Silver Street in Whitby. Located on a lovely little street and away from the crowds this beautiful cafe in a small courtyard is brimming with atmosphere and charm.

A very good menu and the food was excellent. Very quick service and lovely staff.

We sat in the courtyard under the biggest fig tree I had ever seen. It was a hot day and this tree provided the most wonderful shade. There is seating inside.

If parked on the car parks by the harbour you about 10 minutes away but up hill as is everything in Whitby! However the walk is worth it.

This is a dog friendly cafe."

Accessed by the small courtyard just off Silver Street, you’ll find the most perfect tea shop and self-proclaimed ‘house of gin’. Rusty Shears have also recently expanded into the neighbouring property, with ‘The Coach House’ now home to their bar serving up gins and craft beers.

Quirky Rusty Shears serves up some of the town’s best cakes and bakes, with a Victoriana setting, sheltered courtyard and extensive gin menu, while The Blitz is a 1940s-themed tearoom by day, tapas bar by night. For a hearty Sunday roast and proper pint, head to White Horse & Griffin, a narrow pub as old as Captain Cook. It also has cottages and hotel rooms to hire.
