on Parchment Street – run by pie, comic and pop culture enthusiasts – has a decent ‘veggie and vegan’ range – including ‘Shroom Raider’ (wild mushrooms and asparagus), ‘Balti Towers’ (mixed peppers and spinach in a spicy balti sauce) and ‘The Notdog’ (vegan sausages and caramelised onion).

This restaurant is regularly ranked among the best for Japanese cuisine in the UK and offers an array of contemporary sushi, sashimi and specialist Japanese cuisine. The eating experience is similar to a tapas bar, there’s no starters or mains and food is bought when ready.

We looked at other options and great reviews kept popping up for Piecaramba – as the name suggests it’s a joint specialising in pies – hardly the hit of luxury we first thought about, but good food is good food, right?

Piecaramba is an eclectic spot cooking up outrageous pies, such as the Hunters Chicken or the Notorious P.I.G (pulled pork and barbecue) - great for kids and plenty of veggie and vegan options.

Simple, excellent gluten free pies of all varieties, the novelty of going into a restaurant and having most of the menu gluten free will never wear off. It's a fab place, go try it.

You can get a delicious pie (including vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free) with a side for under a tenner plus you can enjoy it in a relaxed and slightly geeky setting.
