What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Duchess of Cambridge pub is celebrated for its classic British fare, particularly its pies and fish and chips, and its friendly staff. It also stands out for its impressive gluten-free options. However, some guests have noted that portions can be small and the prices a bit high for the value, with occasional issues regarding table cleanliness and unpleasant smells near the restrooms.
"This is such a great pub right across the street from Windsor Castle. Ola, the assistant manager, was our server and is a delight. She was helpful, making suggestions on dishes to try. The food came quickly and was delicious. My friend got the Hunter’s Chicken and said it was very good. I got the Pie Tasting and wowzers! They were all delicious but the cheddar cheese, potato and leek pie really knocked my socks off. Ola shared that everything is made fresh and when they run out, they are out. She obviously has a lot of pride in this pub and it’s a true gem! If I’m ever back in Windsor, this is where I’ll be dining!"

"We were here for a week visiting from the states. This was the BEST gluten free meal we had all week. They have a menu for gluten free. The woman I assume is the manger took time to assist another member of our travel party with his dietary restrictions. Thank you for keeping us safe!
The steak sandwich was so great. I’ll dream about that onion marmalade. The gf brownie was fantastic. I was sad we couldn’t try the cheesecake because it was out of stock but it sounded amazing. Thank you for wonderful service!!"

"Joanna was our fantastic server. In spite of being extraordinarily busy, she was very attentive and ensured we were well taken care of. The fish & chips and sticky toffee pudding were exceptional and are a must-try. Will certainly come back here next time we are in Windsor."

Things to do in Windsor, from the best restaurants to must-visit pubs
On arrival at The Duchess of Cambridge pub, halfway up the winding hill toward the castle, we found a hoard of royal fans taking pictures outside of it, dutifully pointing at the name above the door. Resisting the urge to do the same, we scurried past and headed inside. The pub is as you would expect, with an oversized copper bar, open fires and quirky nods to the ‘mere mortal’ who married a prince all those years ago, and the royals in general, though even if you don’t subscribe to Kate Middleton fan club (and it only seems to be a small number), the fine wines, world beers and award-winning real ales direct from the McMullen Brewery in Hertford merit a visit anyway.
