What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Pig and Pastry is consistently praised for its exceptional food, friendly and welcoming staff, and unique, cozy atmosphere. Diners rave about the 'best breakfast ever' and love the creative menu options, including excellent vegan choices. While generally highly recommended, some reviews mention minor issues with sourdough being too hard or occasional curt service, though these are outweighed by the overwhelmingly positive experiences.
"We love The Pig and Pastry it's a must to visit whenever we are in York overnight.
Despite being infrequent visitors (owing to living 100miles away) we always receive a warm welcome. The place has an upbeat and slightly hipster quirky feel, but alllllllll are made very welcome. The staff handled our order without issue making my little boy an off menu dish without even raising an eyebrow making a very happy 6year old future customer.
The place has been maintained well and looks as fresh as ever. even if we are a bit disappointed that there is a more single table layout and less sort of communal tables feel."

"Visited here for our anniversary breakfast.
First time and we were not disappointed. Service was good, fast and friendly. Food was perfect, actually the best breakfast we have ever had out anywhere. Great portion size and so tasty.
Tea and coffee was nice and the cake was delicious too.
Cute, quaint little place.
Thanks so much ☺️"

"We had breakfast at Pig and Pastry Café and really enjoyed it. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was welcoming. It didn’t take our food too long, it was delicious and full of taste. I also added chorizo and hashbrown to my sandwich. The sourdough bread was a bit too hard to bite through, but the filling of the sandwich more than made up for it, a lovely spot for breakfast with sitting outside. Affordable prices. Absolutely recommend it."

Now in its 13th year, this legendary brunch/lunch spot on Bishopthorpe Road – a strip of indie businesses just outside the city walls – just gets better and better. The attention to detail in the Pig’s cooking is exacting, as is its sourcing (Haxby breads, Brindisa chorizo, Dama’s ace Yorkshire take on halloumi). Even after all these years, you can still expect to queue at peak times for eggs benedict or a Reuben sandwich.
