You can pretend it’s always summer at Barca Pier & Wine Bar, thanks to the restaurant’s waterfront location that hovers directly over the Potomac and its seafood-centered menu. Barca could lean into its locale and go full-on mid-Atlantic with its menu, but the dishes are rooted in Catalonian and Mediterranean cuisine, and we love them for that. This is our go-to for a mid-afternoon meal of tapas and Spanish sparkling wine—get the patatas bravas, seared scallops, and Catalan-style mussels.

In an area with plenty of waterfront restaurants, Barca Pier & Wine Bar takes it up a notch as a floating bar on the Potomac with unobstructed views of the DC skyline. You can’t get much more quintessential Old Town than that. The bar and restaurant focuses on Spanish-style tapas like Patatas Bravas, Jumbo Garlic Shrimp, and octopus prepared like you might order in Barcelona.

Located in Robinson Landing along the Potomac River, BARCA was built on an Old Town commercial pier. An industrial freight container doubles as BARCA’s main bar, where you can find a great selection of red and white wines and specialty drinks such as La Cupula, with ‍Beefeater gin, luxardo maraschino liqueur, pomegranate, and pineapple juice, and Stone Fruit Sangria. BARCA’s menu features classic Spanish small plates such as papas bravas, fried calamari, and garlic shrimp.

If you’re looking for drinks beforehand, plenty of spots do craft cocktails but Ada’s on the river and it’s companion (Barca) are my pick. Ada’s food is top-notch as well, my firm does lots of celebratory lunches and dinners there for groups of 8-20.

Barca is nice as its along the water and food and drinks are good. Usually need reservations but sometimes if you walk up they have opening at bar or high top tables. This is the place I usually take out of town guest and they all loved it.

Another day, we had lunch at BARCA Pier & Wine Bar on the river, with a lively Barcelona beach bar vibe. We shared plates of crispy patatas bravas, herb-y pan roasted mushrooms, garlicky spicy shrimp, and chorizo stuffed piquillo peppers.

At Barca, you’ll find mouthwatering wines and tapas, as well as riverfront dining views in nice weather. Two must-try options here are the patatas bravas and the Tzatziki with pita bread!

Barca also has excellent views, but make sure you have a reservation if the weather is nice. They get very busy and have a fantastic view of the water to the capital in DC.
