"We had an outstanding experience at The Study at Morrison House. The staff and the food were nothing short of exceptional, and we eagerly anticipate our next visit to explore more of the tantalizing options on their menu.
From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted and swiftly seated. The decor was elegant, and the ambiance set the perfect tone for a romantic dinner. Our waiter, Rodney, was phenomenal. He was incredibly attentive, kind, and had an impressive knowledge of the menu. His recommendations were spot-on and greatly enhanced our dining experience.
The food was spectacular, from the appetizers to the dessert. Each dish was a delight to the senses, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. The attention to detail in both taste and presentation was exactly what one would expect from a high-end restaurant.
We can't wait to return and try more of their amazing dishes."

"Excellent! We were blown away by each dish, on the two nights we stayed at the Morrison House. 1st time we ate at the bar while listening to lovely piano-playing. The 2nd night we reserved a table at the Study & the ambiance & food were both phenomenal. Sean, our server was so friendly, funny, & attentive! Loved every dish & moment there!"

"Went on a Saturday evening. The Study is located in a cute hotel just off the Main Street. The restaurant is nicely decorated, feels cozy and modern. The service by Shawn and the rest of the staff was friendly and helpful. Food and drinks were really amazing (salmon, empanada, duck with mole), with Latin influences. Highly recommend the tres leches dessert which is a family recipe (have it with coffee 👍). The pliant player had us going to the bar after for an after dinner drink and chatting with people at the bar. A great night!"

Best Restaurants in Old Town Alexandria
A new chef and menu concept at The Morrison House’s library-themed bar and restaurant may just be the most exciting new reason to plan a visit to Old Town sometime soon. Chef Tomas Chavarria hails from Costa Rica and brings a variety of Mesoamerican dishes, all of which are comprised of ingredients sourced from local farms and purveyors in the Mid-Atlantic region. The top dish to order here is Esquites.

The Study is a classy, luxe atmospheric bar and restaurant located inside the Morrison Hotel. The food is seasonally sourced, of the highest quality and every detail is artfully presented. The classic cocktails are some of the best in Alexandria (my husband went over the moon for the Beautiful Little Fool and we even got to meet the chef, who passionately shared his love for gastronomy and inspiration for the uniquely flavorful dishes. Some favorites on the menu are the cold smoked hamachi, churros with spicy chocolate sauce and the chocolate sampler! There is also live piano at the Study bar on Thursday – Saturdays from 6-9pm. I’ve eaten here a few times over the years and it’s always a must when we come back to visit.

Costa Rican–born chef Tomas Chavarria first arrived on this list last year with a menu that was a paean to his homeland. This year, he has refined those dishes, but included something new — Korean touches that blend Mesoamerican traditions with those of East Asia. With that, he has created another experience you’ll struggle to find anywhere else.
