Reviews Summary
Reata Restaurant in Alpine, TX is a beloved spot for its "legendary Texas cuisine" and charming western atmosphere, often praised for its steaks and unique dishes. While many rave about the food quality and friendly service, some diners have experienced slow service or issues with food temperature and portion sizes, particularly when dining with larger groups or without reservations.
"This place was so cute and the food was very good! We got the steak tacos and the alpine nachos. The steak tacos has a lot of meat making it very filling. The steak itself was super meaty and the sauce was very flavorful. Overall me and my friend really loved the experience we had here :)"

"We didn't have reservations, and had our dog with us. They let us sit out back on the patio, which was perfect! We had the whole patio to ourselves.
Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The chicken fried steak was delicious, as was the sides. My husband got the sour cream enchiladas and they were good as well. I enjoyed the local Blonde beer too!
The manager or owner, kindest guy ever- gave our dog a bowl of water. We had an amazing experience and would go back if time allowed!"

"Really struggled with this review. It was going to be a three star, but server saved it. Service was slow, but they warned us as soon as we arrived they were short staffed and watched them turn those without reservations away (Make reservations!). As they were busy, we ordered everything at once. We didn't receive the appetizer we ordered, but did receive the extra sides we ordered AS appetizers?!? Food was good overall, one steak was overdone and fish was a little dry, but sides "appetizers", drinks, other steak and desserts were all great. With the initial service miss and two subpar dishes, it wasn't looking good. But, unlike the other table service restaurant in town the night before (nightmare), this server knew and acknowledged some of the problems and attempted to make it right. The servers personality, 60-70% awesome food and taking ownership of problems put it well above the experience at the other place. Remember to make that reservation!"

We opted for more casual meals and our first night we ate a food truck located around the corner from our AirBnB called Maria’s Comida Mexicana. The quick service, delicious salsa, and flavorful enchiladas were perfect.

Hungry once again, I stepped into Reata Restaurant, which was named for the ranch in the 1956 movie Giant, filmed in nearby Marfa. This restaurant’s mix of steaks, Southwestern cuisine, and comfort food blazes new trails in the category of upscale cowboy cooking. My pepper-crusted tenderloin was simply perfect, and the chocolate tamale made this meal one for the record books.
