Visit early mornings or weekdays for a more relaxed experience with fewer crowds.

Character Interaction Focus

While characters are a highlight, sometimes wait times for specific characters can be long.

Reviews Summary

Storytellers Cafe offers a fun and memorable character dining experience, especially for children. While the food is generally good with vegetarian options available, some find the price point high for the buffet offerings. The attentive staff and high-quality character interactions are consistently praised, though occasional issues with character availability have been noted.

"Came here for my niece's birthday because she's a huge Mickey fan! The food was good, we were there for brunch. As a vegetarian, I was glad there were options that I could enjoy. I just wish there were a few more vegetarian protein options, especially for the price per person. My favorite foods from the selection were the French toast and hash browns.

Besides the food, the atmosphere was really fun! My niece had a blast interacting with the characters as we ate. We also got the white chocolate Mickey birthday cake, which was pretty good.

Overall, it was a fun experience for the kids, and the food was pretty good despite the costly price tag."

"My family visited for the Donald’s Tale of Adventure this afternoon.

The staff was attentive and kind. The food was amazing, plentiful and just downright tasty!!

The problem was that the star of the show, Donald, went missing for stretches lasting over an hour!!!

Other friends (Daisy, Pluto, Goofy, and Clarabelle) were able to see all of the guests without issue, but Donald #1 seemed to only visit certain tables (sometimes repeatedly), ignoring many of his #1 fans.

Multiple tables had children leaving without seeing him, one of which left in tears.

Definitely come for the food, but don’t expect too much from the star. It’d be one thing if we were part of an open beta, but we were still charged full price for the diminished experience.

I’d sit this one out for a little while to let the team figure out how best to shine."

"Lovely character dining experience. The food choices were plentiful and healthy. I ate two plates including 4 different salads and loads of high quality protein. Lots of character interaction without having to flag them down. The sever acknowledged my daughter’s bday and sprinkled some Disney magic onto our bill. Much appreciated, will definitely be back."

Leaving the hecticness of the California Adventure park to head into the Grand Californian Hotel is a lovely respite in your day, and you can make it even better by heading to Storytellers Cafe for lunch. This grand dining room features elevated versions of comfort food in a restful and beautifully designed environment. You may be tempted to fill up on corn muffins (yes, they’re that good), but save room for the actual meal as well, whether you order off the menu or choose the buffet option.
