What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Ginger is celebrated for its stylish ambiance and fusion Pacific Rim cuisine, particularly its fresh seafood and creative dishes like the spicy ahi tuna tower and Bananas Foster egg rolls. While many praise the attentive service and quality of food, some reviews mention inconsistent execution and a less-than-ideal experience during peak times or with large parties.
"Our service started with a smile from the hostess asking if we were celebrating any special occasions. Our sever asked again which is a nice touch. He made sure we didn't have time constraints or food allergies. We ordered the seared scallop appetizer that was fantastic. They were cooked Pittsburgh style perfectly and the sauces were not overpowering and allowed the freshness of the scallop to come through. We moved onto the Poke Bowl and the Grilled Duck. The Poke Bowl was a great value with the amount of tuna involved. The duck was very tasty, but IMO slightly overcooked, but that may be what the masses want. The beer selection was very balanced and the Stellum Rye Old Fashioned was only missing a nice cherry. Otherwise, the drink rocked! Great service, food, and drink!"

"Amazing banana foster egg roll. Duck was good but not enough fried rice to accompany it. My friends scallop mac and cheese was great too but the scallops were kind of small. Overall delicious, and amazing service."

"Over the top food and drinks, artfully crafted to mimic an Upscale LA or NY experience. Very nice for special occasions.
Modern food, incredibly attentive service with stellar recommendations. I’d term it posh but not pretentious in style, quite nice without feeling too fancy- well worth going at least once"

7 Can't-Miss Restaurants in Anchorage
Part Asian fusion, part Pacific rum, the food at Ginger is most always described as fresh, which isn’t surprising considering the oysters for the Alaskan Oyster Shooter are caught that day and the prawns for the Thai Noodle Soup plucked right from the ocean. More than just seafood (even though why you’d order anything outside of that is beyond us), the menu offers a mix of both healthy and hearty dishes, like a 10-ounce grilled New York strip with hoision-sriracha sauce or a seared tofu curry with coconut curry sauce. One of the stars of the menu is the spicy ahi tuna tower, which is as beautiful as it is delicious with layers of marinated big eye ahi with fresh avocado salad, wasabi and wonton crisps.

Ginger feels classy but laid-back at the same time, making it an excellent place for travelers to eat while on vacation, but you’ll also find a lot of locals here too. The décor is modern yet retro, and every seat in the house is comfortable and just far enough out of the way from the action that you can have a great conversation with whomever you bring along. This is a great place for a cocktail even if you don’t plan to eat, but you should eat, too, as the food is very good.

If there’s one common thread I hear about restaurants in Alaska in general – not just Anchorage – it’s that food is really expensive. I agree – that’s pretty universally true, unless you’re going for a cheap, casual option (like Tia’s, more below) or get thrifty by ordering appetizers or cooking at your non-hotel accommodations. Ginger is the one place I’ve been recently where I feel like – despite the price – you’re absolutely getting your money’s worth in the portion sizes.
