What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Al's Hamburgers is a long-standing Arlington establishment praised for its classic diner burgers and friendly, family-like atmosphere. Many rave about the "Double Double" and other hearty options, complemented by prompt service. However, some diners have experienced issues with food preparation and service.
"Many years ago, I remember going to an old drive-in burger joint that served the best greasy double cheeseburger in town, Al's Hamburgers. The drive-in is gone, but the great greasy (juicy) double cheeseburger is still served. Along with an expanded menu. It's found in a new location on Fielder Rd in Arlington. Al's Hamburgers is still serving like the old days.
I went in today and saw they had added a Brisket Burger to the lineup, and I had to try it out. A ground chuck, brisket, and short rib patty topped with cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, and BBQ sauce. I substituted rings for the fries. Had my usual sweet tea to wash it all down. I made sure to leave room for the recommended Chocolate Chip Brownie with Ice Cream and chocolate syrup drizzle.
It took me back almost 40 years. Al is no longer with us, but his namesake burgers are still alive and tasting great today."

"Food was fast because the hamburger meat was raw . Waitress had a problem when requesting for a cup to go. It was so overwhelming for her and refused to bring one, but she brought refills for others at the table, spend your money elsewhere. Smells like a grease trap in there, expect to leave with your clothes smelling like frying grease. In regards to your response, when an establishment gives good service a great tip is given. I even write letters and call the establishment to let them know how good they were, you do not deserve that. Your waitress rolled her eyes, I asked her for a cup of water with my coffee, never brought it, I did not complain, I let it go, but when she rolled her eyes when I asked for a cup to go I knew she was disgruntled, don't worry, I still left her a tip. Here's a picture of your raw meat. She did not even ask any of us how we wanted our meat cooked. You need to do better. Don't worry I will not be returning ever! I also looked at your reviews and other customers agree! P.S. it was a cup.to go for my coffee, remember? She never brought me water in a cup to go!"

"After lunch here I asked my husband how he liked it and he said “we just had it and I want to go back already.” This is THE place to get a solid diner burger. He got the double double with tots, I got Al’s Big Spicy which made mine a bit greasier and harder to eat but it was absolutely delicious. I can’t wait to explore the menu, and my husband can’t wait to order the same thing again and again!"

Things to Eat in Arlington
Originally opened by Al Matthews in 1957 and now run by his daughter and son-in-law, Al’s is one of Arlington’s many long-running institutions. In 1989, the restaurant moved into its current location, where locals gather for some of the city’s finest thin-patty burgers, the sizzle of the grill popping in the background. Later this year, Al’s will make a third move, this time to bigger digs at nearby Fielder Plaza.
