Reviews Summary

Sunny Point Cafe is a beloved, family-owned spot known for its exceptional farm-to-table comfort food and charming atmosphere, especially its outdoor garden seating. While wait times can be long, particularly on weekends, diners consistently praise the quality and creativity of dishes like the chicken waffle sandwich and shrimp and grits. Service is generally friendly and attentive, contributing to an overall highly recommended dining experience.

"This is a very popular location with a long wait time. I’d say the wait is well worth your time. I’ve never enjoyed brunch but wow this place has the best food I’ve tasted in a long time. I ordered the chicken waffle sandwich with jalapeño jam and house potatoes. My wife ordered an omelet with grits. We got outside seating for our dogs and loved the decor. We come to Asheville often and will definitely be back!"

Jae Kim

"The food was great and a good selection of food for only being a breakfast/lunch place. Pretty much all the seating is outdoors, but they do have plenty of airflow for the summer and heaters for the winter. I want to come back to try all their different options, but the breakfast burrito wasn't the best I've had. Definitely not bad, but not incredible. The carrot pancakes were very tempting. Will be trying those next time."

Tom Birk

"The food here is phenomenal. I did not have to put any salt or pepper on anything to flavor it. The hot sauce that they sell is also really good. We bought two bottles. We got the huevos rancheros, an omelette, shrimp, and grits and a breakfast burrito which was excellent. The iced chai almond milk latte was fabulous. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves good food. I wish I could’ve ordered everything on the menu just to taste how delicious they made everything but if I’m ever in Asheville again I will definitely come and try some other items on their menu. The only thing I wish was quicker was the wait time since they don’t let you make any reservations in advance so it was 30 minutes Wait both times we went to the restaurant different days. The whole restaurant staff were all super friendly from the front, taking my information and for a table all the way through the waiter and waitresses that served us."

The lines at this brunch spot are absurd, but Sunny Point’s garden courtyard and picnic tables turn the wait into an event of its own. Occupy yourself with generously-poured mimosas and baked goods like scones, biscuits, and muffins. By the time you’re seated, we can’t promise you’ll be the same person you were when you arrived, but Southern farm-to-table staples like the red-eye gravy benedict, carrot hotcakes, and fried green tomato sandwich will make you new again.

Since opening in 2003, Sunny Point's owners April Moon Harper and Belinda Raab have seen Asheville and its dining scene transform into something that would have been unimaginable back then. But their West Asheville café is just as beloved for its comfort food and breezy covered patio now as it was nearly 20 years ago. Open for breakfast and lunch, huevos rancheros is a popular item, but you can't go wrong with any of the sandwiches, like the pecan-crusted fried green tomatoes served with bacon, goat cheese, and roasted red pepper aioli on a croissant, or the fried chicken sandwich with arugula and brie on a biscuit.
