This Asheville taco shop offers a simple menu that has some sides like chips and salsa but focuses mostly on the tacos themselves: what is available at each location changes, but you might find a pork belly taco, a lamb gyro taco, a BLT taco, and a chicken tikka masala taco all sharing the same menu board.

There's almost always a line out the door, especially during peak lunch and dinner times Monday through Saturday. Inside, a colorful chalkboard displays the kitchen's offerings, including a dozen varieties of tacos with a nod to a plethora of international cuisines.

This affordable hot spot is known for wild taco creations and its use of local and seasonal ingredients. In addition to traditional taco offerings, White Duck Taco Shop offers more interesting fillings like Banh Mi tofu, spicy buffalo chicken, Bangkok shrimp, lump crab, Korean beef Bulgogi, and duck with mole. Personally, I’m not a huge taco fanatic - I thought the tacos were solid and the flavor combinations were creative.

A couple of blocks away we were treated to a couple of flavor bombs from White Duck Taco Shop. There are two locations of White Duck in Asheville, and although these are technically taquerias in that they sell tacos, they don’t sell your traditional Mexican tacos. One taco was filled with Caribbean jerk chicken, red slaw, and pineapple, while another had Korean beef bulgogi with avocado puree and kimchi.

There’s no bad time for tacos, and with locations in both downtown Asheville and the River Arts District, White Duck Taco Shop makes it easy to fill up on your corn tortilla flavor combos. Ignite your palate with unique pairings such as Duck with Mole Mushroom potato with Romesco, and Lamb Gyro. Even the veggie-inclined can get in on the fun with offerings such as Banh Mi Tofu and Black Beans.

Alternatively, go to the White Duck Taco Shop (just slightly outside of the downtown area) for the best tacos in Asheville. I ordered the fried chicken BLT, the gyro, and the fish taco and they were some of the best tacos I’ve ever had!. There are 9 White Duck Taco locations but this is our favorite. There’s ample parking, a beer bus, indoor and outdoor seating, and best of all it’s right next to the French Broad River. This location is also pet friendly.

While the floods destroyed the White Duck with its picnic benches along the French Broad, the city luckily still has the downtown location putting out the same tacos and margaritas that turned this into a regional chain.
