Kenichi has been operating in Aspen since 1991, so Snowmass locals are happy to have their own outpost of the institution. Start with a warm dish like miso black cod before diving into sushi. Be sure to order whatever special roll the chefs have concocted, or if you're sticking with a warm entrée, try the pan-seared duck with a caramelized blood-orange soy glaze.

Other notable firms, such as Charles Cunniffe Architects (Aspen Athletic Club, Aspen Block), David Johnston Architects (Spring Building, Kenichi), KA DesignWorks, Inc. (Hotel Durant), Poss Architecture and Planning (Hyatt Grand Aspen, Boogie’s Diner), Menendez Architects (Aspen Alps Condominiums), Rowland+Broughton (Crandall Building, Hotel Jerome, The Little Nell), and Studio B Architects (Aspen Middle School), have helped pave the way to Aspen’s current modernist community. Charles Cunniffe Architects, for example, worked with Theatre Aspen for over 10 years to redesign its tent in downtown Rio Grande Park. The award-winning structure was designed to include multi-wall polycarbonate panels that fade to clear, which minimizes glare and potential heat gain.

Creating Edible Art" is Kenichi's slogan, and a quick glance at the food as it emerges from the kitchen and sushi bar pretty much confirms this. Prices are rather creative here as well (read: high), but the festive atmosphere, diversity and quality of food, and the local color makes it well worth it. It's unusual to see a Caucasian-staffed sushi bar, but somehow these guys know how to put together a good plate of raw fish, even if they haven't been imbued with the deep traditions of the sushi-san.

Kenichi (533 E. Hopkins Ave., 970.920.2212, kenichiaspen.com), for one, where master sushi chef Kiyomi Sano’s nightly top selection nigiri combo draws folks in—the Tatami Room is typically booked. And then there’s Matsuhisa (303 E. Main St., 970.544.6628, matsuhisaaspen.com), revered for yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno, black miso cod and, well, Nobu himself.That said, newer spots are luring people for a different take on the theme. Here are some of our recent favorites.

The ambiance of the space brings you from the Western charm to a modern oasis. The yellowtail and otoro seranna, with truffle, of course, is the perfect opening to this impeccable experience of a meal. Finally, the kitchen is brought right to your fingertips, and you become the master with their signature Wagyu Hot Rock featuring Snake River Wagyu seared on the 1000-degree Hot Rock right at your table.

The food is out of this world (you have to try the Blake Roll, the Dynamite Shrimp, and the Black Cod Misozuke–which is marinated for 72 hours), but a highlight of the Tatami Room is the ability to throw on your iPod and play DJ. I’ve spent many a night back there where the courses are interrupted by impromptu dance parties. Make sure to make a reservation and then get to work on your playlist.

Kenichi Kanada and Bil Rieger opened Kenichi in 1991 in the hope of providing Aspen with a new local hot spot “to see and be seen”. Today, Kenichi continues to delight with the freshest sushi and pan-Asian cuisine while upholding a uniquely hip and alluring dining environment and remains a favorite for Aspenites and vacationers alike.

I’d recommend making a reservation here because it can get crowded pretty early. If sushi’s not your thing, they’ve also got a great entree menu with various pan-Asian cuisine. However, I’m a sushi lover, so I always opt for either a classic Rainbow Roll or the Dynamo Roll if I’m craving something spicy.

This year’s free event will feature the Ultimate Mac and Cheese Showdown, in which restaurants including Kenichi, Elk Camp, West End Social, Hominy, Parc and Meat & Cheese will compete to create the most scintillating and delicious mac-and-cheese dishes.

Kenichi is an excellent choice for dinner out on the town, especially if you fancy veggie sushi. The atmosphere is refined, with low lighting and a lounge-like feel. There are a couple of sushi items as well as entrees that suit vegans.

Kenichi is a go-to spot in Aspen for fresh sushi and Asian-inspired dishes. The Aspen roll and miso black cod are standout favorites. It’s a great place to spend a night out on vacation!.

In the lower village there will be a Slice of Italy and Kenichi if you like Sushi. My favorite Apres’/Dinner Place in Snowmass will be Aurum!. Awesome happy hour, drinks, and dinner menu.

Year after year, Takah Sushi receives three times as many votes as second-place finisher Kenichi. The presentation is clean and so is the sushi. They also serve mean desserts.

A local’s favorite for almost 30 years, Kenichi Aspen will have 50% off sushi rolls and drink specials from 5:00-6:30pm served in their bar & lounge.

Their fried tofu app and their salad are delicious and they switched out the tuna for fried tofu in their Hawaiian Roll for us and it was sooo good.

I prefer the atmosphere to the other two restaurants, and have some unique rolls!. I would still go to Takah Sushi. However I have yet to try Asie.
