Diners rave about the artisan breads, pastries, and specialty coffees, noting the availability of vegan and vegetarian options. While generally efficient, occasional delays are noted, and popular items can sell out.

"First time visiting Astoria with daughter-in-law and two grandkids... Cappuccino- perfect! Baked breads- Amazing!!! Cookies, cinnamon rolls and Fairy cup cakes - scrumptious and perfect accompaniment to coffee!
Everyone "fits" here from locals to college age & young entrepreneurs working the net to retired folk enjoying the day.
If there is a classic Astoria coffee shop it would be here- Wonderful!"

"Great breakfast / lunch spot with delightful takeaway baked goods! Been this place a few times and every time it’s been perfect. Staff are SUPER chirpy and lovely to be around, food is great, and the atmosphere is good. The breakfast burrito is excellent! Good selection of refill coffee on off. Highly recommend!"

Joyful work, delicious food, and strong community" is the rallying cry of this family-friendly, worker-owned cooperative known for everything from huevos scorcheros (poached eggs with rice, beans, cheese, and salsa) and organic, handcrafted breads to a variety of foods using local, fair trade, and organic ingredients. The offerings change with the seasons, but there are always vegan and gluten-free options, and the inviting dining room's big windows and children's play area overlook downtown and the Columbia River in the distance.

The early morning fog is just turning into a light rain as we head over to meet the pioneers of the Astoria food scene at Blue Scorcher Café. Located in a former car dealership, this raw and eclectic space is a local gathering place where, in addition to enjoying breakfast and lunch, you can keep up to date on what’s happening around town. The member-owned bakery and café got its start very much by necessity when in 2004 rumors started swirling that the only baker in town was closing shop.
