Since you can take the quaint little 'tourist trolley' out to the Maritime Museum (and even if you don't want to go inside - which personally I would recommend unless you have zero interest in boats, stories of tragedy & triumph etc - it's the most convenient stop for the Column and the Bowpicker) I've only listed the Column, Bowpicker, and Museum on this little map. From the museum downtown is a pleasant walk on a nice day - a little under 2 miles, and if you stick next to the water it's very hard to get lost in Astoria - but the Riverfront Trolley is very cheap and faster than walking if you don't just miss one (it goes out & back, only one track).

Bowpicker Fish & Chips is a little fast food stand that sells fish & chips out of an old Columbia River gillnet boat located across the street from the Columbia River Maritime Museum on the corner of 17th & Duane Streets. Firm chunks of Albacore tuna lightly beer battered and fried to perfection by Ron and Linda, they stand ready to soak up malt vinegar and scoop tartar sauce. The bed of thick steak fries, crunchy outside and tender inside, are much more than a side dish.

This fish and chip shop has the quirky setting of a fishing boat parked on a patch of grass across from the Columbia River Maritime Museum. Serving up delicious beer battered fish accompanied by chunky steak fries, we declared Bowpicker among the best fish and chips we’ve eaten on our travels and an Astoria must do!. Things to do in Astoria Tip: we managed to grab a spot at the picnic table and enjoyed our fish and chips with a great view of the water.

We ate lunch at the Bowpicker, a fish and chips shop run out of an old fishing boat. I wrote this in my journal about the experience: “It was the best fish and chips I have ever had.[5] It was tuna, not cod or perch, and it was OH MY GOSH MARRY ME NOW delicious.” If that doesn’t convince you to eat here, I don’t know what will. It was seriously good, and who can pass up the opportunity to eat fish out of a fishing boat?

Heading back into town, I made a quick stop at Bowpicker Fish & Chips, an Astoria staple I had already received a recommendation for in just the first few hours of my visit. Located inside an old converted boat, guests are served fish and chips from a walk-up window. Crunchy, warm and filling, the freshly caught Albacore tuna, beer-battered and fried, was well worth the wait in line outside the stationary boat.

Bow picker fish and chips is an old bow picker boat that is parked 1 block off of the Columbia River at 1634 Duane St. next to the old Armory in Astoria Oregon. It’s one of those places that is unique and a fun experience no matter where you are from. They have converted an old bow picker boat into a food stand and cook fresh Albacore Tuna fish and chips out of it daily.

This small boat in the middle of a parking lot is one of the highest-rated fish and chips spots in all of Oregon. It opens most days at 11 AM, and there is usually at least 15 people in line 20 minutes before they open. Expect to wait for at least 45 minutes, but it is a great restaurant with a unique batter that is unlike any other fish and chips I have had.

When talking about fish and chips on the Oregon coast, the first place many people mention is Bowpicker. With deep fryers built into a 70-year-old Columbia River bowpicker boat parked beside a sidewalk downtown, the restaurant serves up crispy beer-battered albacore tuna and thick steak fries that have earned them a passionate fanbase over the years.

We didn’t get to eat here but several people mentioned it and it gives me a reason to return to the great Oregon coast. I just thought the boat idea was so cute and they are open, weather permitting.

Ok, so I mentioned that the Buoy Beer Company has a limited menu, but not nearly as limited as the Bowpicker Fish and Chips. They only sell one thing: fish and chips. But they do it SO WELL. The Bowpicker Fish and Chips has a converted boat that they park across from the Columbia Maritime Museum, which is pretty cool in and of itself.

Holy yum! Multiple posts mentioned the Bowpicker, as well as some friends here in Vancouver, so we knew we had to go. It’s served out of a boat, so definitely not your typical dining experience. The fish was SO GOOD. They really have perfected it-super crispy outside, tender inside, with the best tartar sauce.

The Bowpicker is right outside the Courthouse, and serves only fish and chips, and freshly caught that day. Once they’re out, they’re out!. They serve it out of a boat-turned-kitchen, so it’s fun for the experience, but there isn’t much shelter, so it may not be so great for a rainy day meal.

No trip to Oregon’s coast is complete without a stop at an authentic seafood shanty, much like Bowpicker, a tourist attraction and a boat-based food cart combo.

The Silver Salmon is good but we are looking for a seafood restaurant that we haven't tried, preferably one with a view of the estuary. Any recommendations?
