This ain’t no freezer-aisle pizza either -- Argosy’s signature pies are made in an open wood-fired oven.

The kitchen remains open until 11 pm, and the pizza joint also has an all-encompassing craft beer selection to accompany its 14-inch pizzas. Try ‘the admiral,’ which comes with rich tomato sauce, pepperoni, cured Spanish chorizo, and arugula.

Argosy: Craft beer aficionados will feel like a kid in a candy store at this hip East Atlanta Village gastropub, which offers 30 specialist brews on tap. Switched-on bartenders share their knowledge and offer small-pour tasters, served in a breezy, open-plan setting. Ask to be directed towards the hidden retro arcade room, for a classic game of Skee-Ball.

There are more than 30 beers on tap at Argosy, but what makes the draft list stand out is how adventurous it is. “Entry-level” offerings do not abound here—you may find a few low-ABV, high-flavor offerings, but expect the majority of the lineup to be dominated by big DIPAs, stouts, sours and Belgian ales. As much a restaurant as it is a bar, though, Argosy also offers a unique selection of woodfire pizzas, homemade hot dogs (really) and Southern staples. It’s that rare place where you can pair a locally smoked hot dog with a Belgian farmhouse ale and it doesn’t seem even the least bit odd.

Argosy is the rare restaurant that does more than it needs to—and does all of it well. The gastropub’s pizza might not be the most name-dropped in town, but the wood-fired crust and Spotted Trotter–sourced toppings make it one of Atlanta’s best. Order one to-go, or choose from sandwiches, small plates, seasonal salads, snacks, house-made pickles, and a family meal that’s 100-percent sourced from Georgia farms; $55 feeds four and includes a four-pack of beers from Argosy’s sister brewpub, Sceptre Brewing Arts.

Argosy in East Atlanta Village serves brunch on the weekends from 12pm-4pm, with bloody Mary’s and mimosas to boot. This spacious restaurant and bar is also open for lunch and dinner and offers one of the most extensive beer lists in the city. The brunch menu is known for chicken and pancakes (11 USD, 9.65 EUR), biscuits and gravy (8 USD, 7 EUR), and the hefty breakfast plancha burger (12 USD, 10.52 EUR) topped with bacon and an egg.

If you’re bar hopping around East Atlanta Village, it’s almost guaranteed that you’re going to end up at Argosy, a large brewpub with plenty of seating, and more than 30 different beers on the menu. There’s also wood-fired pizza (our fave) and hand-cut fries with a gazillion dipping sauces (nice to meet you, wasabi mayo). Dig in the upscale pub fare while you play skee-ball or shuffleboard in the back area.

Come for the funky East Atlanta environs and stay for the wood-fired pizza cooked in an open-air oven. The White Whale pizza with labneh (strained yogurt), garlic, EVOO, white anchovies, locally sourced mozzarella, fried lemon, thyme, arugula, capers and red chile flakes gets our vote.

The fellas who brought us Book-house Pub and underground dance dive MJQ get a bit more upscale without losing their grit in this warm, vintage-inspired space. Menu mash-ups are popular, like the soy and lime marinated crispy chicken sandwich. The massive beer list has spunk, and it sure is nice to hear “Hitachino” pronounced the right way.
