Reviews Summary

Diners consistently praise Knife and Fork Inn for its classic steak and seafood dishes, attentive service, and historic, cozy atmosphere. While many rave about the quality of the food and the immersive historical ambiance, a few have noted minor issues with the texture of certain steak cuts and occasional wait times for seating.

"Amazing oysters! Loved the jalapeno lime sorbet served with them. We also really liked the lamb lollipop appetizer. Good calamari and steak. The creme brulee was very creamy. Waitress was knowledgeable on modifications needed to meet gluten free requirements for some of the table."

Yndalecia Martinez

"An amazing dinner! We appreciated everything and the food and service were great! Our server was very attentive and their recommendations when we asked were on point. You are dining in the Prohibition era in this restaurant and if your a history buff it only accentuates the dining experience. I felt as if at home with the quaint and comfortable vibe. Everything we ordered from cocktails to desert was electric to our taste buds. I have dined here several times including Thanksgiving and keep coming back!"

Paul

"The steak is amazing. That is without a doubt. Do avoid the lobster. They claim they make it in a specific style and they have been doing it for the past 100 years and no one else can do it…well no one else does it because you don’t get chewy lobster… just get the steak and have a good time! Win and lose some money! We had a great waiter and it’s a cool joint"

Restaurants in Atlantic City

The historic Flemish building that holds this restaurant started as a private gentlemen's club in 1912 and was frequented by the notorious power brokers of the day until it was raided by Prohibition agents in 1927. Today it's owned by the Dougherty family, whose four generations have operated Dock's Oyster House, and seafood—from diver scallops and crab cakes to lobster preparations—shines here, while rib-eye, filet mignon, and rack of lamb satisfy landlubbers. Parties of eight or more can take advantage of their Private Dining option, with prix-fixe meals served in intimate rooms.

The Top Restaurants In Atlantic City, New Jersey

Established in 1912 by the then mayor of Atlantic City, the Knife & Fork Inn has gone through a series of changes as it has adapted with the times. At one time a drinking and dining club exclusively for men, during the prohibition, the Inn was raided and had its stores ransacked by federal agents. A decade ago, the restaurant changed hands to the owners of Dock’s Oyster House, undergoing a major refurbishment to take it back to its prohibition era roots.

Why Atlantic City’s Food Scene Might Be Having a Renaissance Right Now

On the surface, the meal itself was incredibly good, but not remarkably creative. We got fresh buffalo mozzarella with prosciutto and roasted peppers, then pasta with their special clam sauce, and the famous bone-in veal chop Parmesan, and each dish was fantastic, but that was barely the point. Everything else about Vola's makes you feel bathed in the warm glow of a special night.

Knife & Fork Inn: Few spots define dining in Atlantic City more than Knife & Fork Inn, the classic old guard restaurant located on the south edge of town. Many a plate of Lobster Thermidor have been consumed here since the doors opened in 1912, and that dish alone would likely be enough to cement this place into the history books of America’s Playground, but man cannot — and should not — end a meal with an entrée and nothing more. Hence why the folks at Knife & Fork have such an extensive dessert menu featuring a variety of items such as white chocolate cheesecake, vanilla bean crème brulee, a mixed berry Napoleon and a cranberry walnut bread pudding, lifted to new heights with the addition of whipped cream and a rich and delicious vanilla bourbon sauce.

The restaurant is owned by the Dougherty family, proprietors of the century-old Dock’s Oyster House and Knife & Fork. True to its name, Harry’s features oysters, at least a dozen selections daily, ranging from Cape Cod Wiannos to Emerald Coves from Denman Island in British Columbia. Chowders --- New York- and New England-style --- are good, but we recommend the corn and crab chowder with roasted jalapeño cream.

The Boardwalk Is Back: New and Classic Atlantic City…

Another storied Atlantic City dining landmark, the Knife and Fork dates back to 1912. It’s nearly impossible to miss—the bright white castle-like facade is adorned with green shutters and checkered with a pattern of decorative crisscrossed knives and forks.
