A little Baltimore detour turned into the perfect dining moment ✨ Stopped by Rye Street Tavern on my errand run — the service, the food, the views… all top-tier. I ordered the Sea-cuterie 🦀 and it did not disappoint. Next time, I’m coming back for that Rockfish 👌🏾 #RyeStreetTavern

Reviews Summary

The Tavern at Woodberry Kitchen is praised for its refined New American cuisine and commitment to farm-to-table ingredients, creating a rustic-chic ambiance. While many highlight the excellent food and service, some reviews mention less friendly staff and concerns about blandness or over-seasoning, though desserts are consistently a hit. The venue is also highly regarded for hosting memorable weddings and events.

"Excellent food, attentive and friendly service, great vibes. What more could you want?

I’ve been a couple of times and my experience is consistently lovely. The Tavern dining room is small, so I recommend a reservation, especially for larger parties. I think the largest they can seat in their standard set up is 6."

"We had our micro wedding with 21 attendees at Woodberry Kitchen in March 2025. We got married on the patio and had our reception inside. We could not have picked a better venue for our wedding - it was the perfect size, price, etc. Woodberry Kitchen is the whole package for weddings and events. Everyone who came to our wedding talked about how wonderful the wedding and venue was - aesthetically pleasing and intimate with amazing food. Jolanta was great to work with throughout the planning process and listened to all of our requests and concerns, and Amanda was fantastic the day of the event, making sure everything went smoothly. If you're getting married or hosting an event in Baltimore, Woodberry Kitchen is a no-brainer for your dream venue!"

"First, I would say it started off great. I couldn't find the restaurant because I didn't see the name of the building, but the waitress was friendly enough to meet us outside. The restaurant has a rustic feel to it. It's not fancy on the inside, but it has brick walls, hence an old mill. The menu is limited, but I did order a drink. I had the deviled eggs, which is only one egg cut in half. I had the salad, and steak. Honestly, it wasn't my preferred cut, so I only had one piece of the steak. The taste of the food was somewhat bland. For some reason, once the food order was placed, I saw the waitress, but I had to get another waiter to help with some other things, including my dessert. My dessert was the best part of the meal, and please note that an automatic 20% gratuity was added regardless of the party size. I would recommend this location for venue only. The wedding party seems to be the only thing that was a success."

A devotee to sustainable farming, Woodberry Kitchen, a two-floor restaurant with high ceilings, brick oven and kitchen made of freshly cut logs, only uses meat and produce cultivated by Chesapeake farmers and available each season. By procuring and displaying ingredients from a local source, the restaurant not only promotes local farming but also upholds the local economy and provides guests with natural and healthy nourishment. In addition to its contribution to sustainable agriculture and provision of fresh, locally sourced food, the restaurant offers exceptional service as well as entertainment, placing it among the best restaurants in the district.

Baltimore’s Best Restaurants 2024

We’ll admit that it took us some time to adjust when the restaurant once known as Woodberry Kitchen reopened as a tavern after the pandemic. But now that the place has found its footing, we can see that, though James Beard Award-winning chef Spike Gjerde’s original iteration was inarguably ambitious, the tavern is a more understated expression that’s no less charming. With its Windsor chairs, Persian carpets, and nostalgic desserts, the restaurant’s farm-to-fork DNA is still very much in place, with a focus on regional specialties that are at once familiar and novel.

Baltimore – Eat Now Run Later

Woodberry Kitchen is from 2015 James Beard Award winning chef Spike Gjerde in Baltimore’s Woodberry neighborhood, just off the Woodberry light rail stop. The chef is almost obsessive about getting all of his products from local farms, finding products that haven’t been used in generations and then making as much as possible in-house. Interestingly, Woodberry Kitchen uses many of the same products and has a similar mentality to Husk in Charleston.

As one of the most lauded, awarded restaurants in Baltimore, Woodberry Kitchen is the one restaurant I visited that could define Baltimore dining style. Friendly, excellent service and a lofty, barn-like space with an inviting outdoor patio and firepit evokes both urban and countryside aesthetics. Woodberry is rustic and hip, farm-to-table but not in the way that pioneering NorCal is, pulling from both California and Old World Europe.
