Lots of spots in Bar Harbor are closed between lunch and dinner, but not Atlantic Brewing Company. That's exactly why their tasting room in Midtown should be your post-hike destination for crisp summer ales and snacking in the afternoon. I was introduced to Cottage Street Pub by a lobsterman I met outside of Beal’s Lobster Pier while dining on a misty evening. Somehow, the conversation turned to dive bars revered by locals, and I ended up sipping Prosecco and Absinthe Foam cocktails (yep, you read that right) with a group of lobstermen long into the evening. Equally as charming but with a more beer-centric menu, is the periwinkle-exterior The Barnacle also located in the heart of downtown.

Our last stop on the way out of town is Mainely Meat BBQ at Atlantic Brewing Company’s tasting room. We find a sunny patio seat and enjoy a final round of beers with ribs, pulled pork, and live music. With nourished bellies and minds, we head back toward Portland feeling refreshed and looking forward to our next journey to Mount Desert Island.

We love the vibe of this place and we find the food to be good, but mostly we recommend visiting for the blueberry wine, cider flights and blueberry soda!. They serve Old Soaker Blueberry Soda here, which is a family favorite.
