What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Red Sky Restaurant is lauded for its exceptional fine dining experience, featuring creative American cuisine with French techniques and local ingredients. Diners consistently praise the professional and friendly staff, the unique European-like atmosphere, and the beautifully presented, flavorful dishes. While most reviews are glowing, a few patrons have experienced disappointment with specific dishes and service timing.
"We had an amazing vegetarian experience here! Thanks for making some of the dishes vegan! The food, staff, and atmosphere were wonderful! We do hope they will consider adding more vegan proteins to the menu. Thanks again for a terrific experience 😊"
Joshua Warren
"Our first night in Maine we were referred to Red Sky for dinner. Thankfully we were able to get a reservation last minute. Our dining experience was absolutely fantastic. The staff are beyond professional and courteous while the atmosphere is unique. Oddly enough, you feel like you might be dining in a different country just based on the European vibes. The food was absolutely spectacular, highly recommend the mussels starter and the lobster risotto. 10/10"

"Booked a reservation at this place on a whim and what a surprise. Everything about it—food, service, and ambiance — was first rate. Far better than I thought I had any right to expect in a little place in Southwest Harbor Maine. You could drop this place with the staff they have in Manhattan and they’d hold their own. And while everything is good: get the duck breast."

Whether you have a table or a seat at the bar, you’ll feel comfortable at this acclaimed longtime downtown restaurant, where yellow walls, white tablecloths, and the white brick fireplace add lightness and wood ceilings and floors add warmth. Rich with locally sourced foods, the seasonally fine-tuned menu has entrées such as lobster risotto with asparagus and maple-glazed baby back ribs, grilled with crescendo after slowly braising, or choose an inventive burger, perhaps with Red Sky hot sauce; pasta is made in-house.

Red Sky is another of these fresh, local, organic places and turned out to be our favorite meal on MDI. House-made ginger-lime soda, bread right out of the oven, Spanish salad with yellow cucumbers, lobster risotto, fresh gingerbread – every dish was a standout. This was another very popular spot (and rightfully so), so make reservations and don’t expect a quiet dinner, even on a weekday night.
Best Restaurants in Bar Harbor, Maine — from a New Yorker’s Point-of-View
A favorite of both locals and visitors to Mount Desert Island, it draws guests not only from Southwest Harbor and other communities on the “quiet side,” but also regulars from Seal Harbor and Northeast Harbor. Balancing warmth with culinary expertise, the owners James and Elizabeth Lindquist set a white table cloth for an excellent menu that features local products and seasonal produce. The pan-roasted breast of duck and grilled marinated lamb are among my favorites, as is Elizabeth’s martini.
