Oink's Dutch Treat

Oinks: I can’t talk about New Buffalo dining and fail to mention where to get ICE CREAM!. We went to Oinks during this trip because the kids adore the kitschy piggy decor, but we also really enjoy Beachside Scoops for an after-dinner (or mid-day) cool down. Beachside Scoops is located next to another NB favorite spot, Stray Dog, which we didn’t eat at this trip, but it’s always a family or adult favorite (if you’re a group of adults only, definitely try to hit the rooftop bar for a fun vibe and great views!).

This family-owned shop has been serving sweet treats since 1974, delighting locals and visitors of all ages. Choose from hand-dipped ice cream flavors, including classic favorites like chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, and unique creations like blue moon and butter pecan. Whether you're enjoying a cone on the go or treating yourself to a decadent sundae, Oink's Dutch Treat will satisfy your sweet cravings.

Despite normally avoiding hard-scooped ice cream shops, all the positive Spokin reviews encouraged me to try Oink’s in New Buffalo. The staff kindly offered to change their gloves, grab a new scooper, and open a fresh tub of Cookie Dough ice cream from the back!. This sweet treat was the cherry on top of our lakeside weekend getaway.

Beat the Heat with a delicious scoop of ice cream or frozen yogurt inside a thoroughly decorated, pig-themed ice cream shop. This family-friendly spot is a longtime favorite with vacationers, who enjoy the outdoor seating area. Be sure and check out Oink’s Chocolate, Pig, too, for even more sweet treats!

I order it wherever I go, no matter what city or country I’m in. It’s the perfect sweet treat that my stomach ALWAYS has room for. Oink’s Dutch Treat is the summertime staple of New Buffalo, Michigan and after over 30 years of service, is one of the most well-known ice cream spots in the whole state.

Then cap the night at Oink’s Dutch Treat, a blue-trimmed ice cream stand around the block. Michigan Pot Hole is the way to go here, a chocolate ice cream flecked with crunchy chocolate cookie bits. Every inch of the interior is covered with kooky pig decor that seems to multiply each winter hiatus.

Of course, no family getaway is complete without ice cream, and Oink’s Dutch Treat has the best in the area. Grab a scoop of Michigan Pot Hole or Mackinac Fudge while you eye up the pig memorabilia, like toys and piggy banks, peppered throughout the shop.

Enjoy a casual lunch or savory sweet at local fave Froehlich’s, or grab an ice cream cone at Oink’s Dutch Treat, another New Buffalo icon. And don’t forget to pack a picnic while visiting one of the many vineyards and breweries throughout the area.

If you need a sweet, cool-down treat with a side of kitsch, Oink’s is the spot. For 30+ years, Oink’s has served up 53 flavors of Ashby’s ice cream. A separate entrance leads to Oink’s candy store, filled with old-school hits.

Once we finished up at Beer Church, we drove around town a little big to check out the houses and views. I definitely want to come back in the summer!. To end our perfect afternoon, we finished up at Oink’s Dutch Treat.

Of course, you can’t visit New Buffalo without stopping for some ice cream at family-owned Oinks Dutch Treat, a totally kitchy spot in downtown New Buffalo. Expect to wait in line, but it’s worth it.

You can’t head out of town before stopping at OINK’S for ice cream. In business for 30 years, OINK’S is a favorite spot. Make sure you take the time the check out the nostalgia explosion inside.
