Reviews Summary

Elsie's Plate & Pie is celebrated for its creative and delicious sweet and savory pies, along with its flavorful Cajun comfort food like fried chicken and seafood pies. Many praise the unique dishes and friendly service, though some reviews mention inconsistencies in flavor or texture for certain items, and a less successful dessert nacho experience.

"Stellar service, refreshingly creative and outstandingly delicious. I got the perfect mix of savory and sweet with a Natchitoches Three Meat Pie and Apple pie. Our server Leigh was wonderful!

Even my picky friend ended up ordering two entrees and a dessert!! The pricing is surprisingly low for such a unique, well crafted menu and experience. 100% coming back!!"

Aaron Russell

"I wanted to try this place because of the good reviews. It's an old school feel with a new school flare. The food was really good & fresh. The red beans & rice is different than the usual you'll taste in Louisiana, but it was still good. The chicken was tender & juicy. The pot pie was good with a good crispy crust, but it was a little too much juice. I feel it should have more filling & less juice. It had good flavor. The worst the dessert nachos! The compo was weird tasting & the breading needed some sugar cinnamon to give it some taste. The ice cream helped, but not much. The turtle pie was ok, but the dark chocolate was bitter. I watched all the food come out & asked others about their food & they all talked about how good their food is. This was our 1st time & we'll be back to try other options, but no desserts. Our server was very nice & the food came out hot & in a timely manner."

Charles Venters Jr.

"We visited during restaurant week. The $35 special menu included duck cherry hand pies with lemon green onion pesto for appetizers, a seafood curry pie, and dessert nachos or key lime pie.

ALL of the dishes were excellent! I wish they would add them to the regular menu.

The restaurant is almost always crowded, but worth waiting for a seat.

The regular seafood pie is on the menu all my the time. Worth a try for sure. All the desserts are delicious.

They offer full pies for take away, but order ahead around the holidays because the best ones run out."

With its menu of handheld classics, Elsie’s Plate and Pie offers a mom-and-pop ambience and some good, Southern cooking to match. Pies are Elsie's specialty, with options ranging from the savory crawfish to the cool coconut cream. I went with friends last week and opted for a specialty grilled cheese with tomato soup, and I was amazed by how much flavor came from a relatively simple dish.

One Great Weekend: What to Do in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Craving something sweet I made my way to Elsie’s Plate and Pie on the recommendation from my friend Jade from Vagabond3 . Elsie’s is the new-school diner that we all want in our neighborhood, but what they really do well is their made-from-scratch pies. I went twice (purely for research, of course) and sampled their s’mores pie and coconut cream pie.
