Reviews Summary

World's Best Donuts is a beloved institution in Grand Marais, praised for its light, airy donuts with perfectly balanced glazes and icings. Many highlight the iconic cinnamon sugar donuts and unique Skizzles as must-tries. However, some find the "World's Best" title ambitious, citing occasional greasiness and high prices, and advise arriving early due to frequent sell-outs and long lines.

"Truly excellent donuts! Donut kabob is super cute, and Skizzle stole the show, especially when warm, it's a must-try! Maple long John and chocolate Bismarck were fantastic, too, can't go wrong. Good value and fast, friendly service."

Roger Hopper

"We came here on a summer weekend and the line wasn’t too bad. You basically walk in one door and out the other and it moved along pretty quickly. My 8 year old daughter and I each had a donut on a stick and it was pretty tasty. There was a good selection and everything looked fresh and delicious. Prices are a bit high even for a resort type town but overall I would recommend getting a donut here and enjoying it at the lake as we did!"

Michael “Wolfy” Howes

"This is a must stop in Grand Marais when going up along Lake Superior. And yes, at least as far as a chocolate frosted donut with sprinkles goes, they are the best in the world. Nice people and quality food well worth a stop"

Should You Find Yourself To Be In Grand Marais, MN – Heavy Table

The pretty good donuts at World’s Best Donuts aren’t available after mid-October, but if you’re looking for a rib-sticking breakfast to get you through a chilly morning, cozy The Pie Place on the Southern fringe of town offers hearty fare year-round (except Mondays). The menu changes weekly, but from-scratch offerings typically include buckwheat, pecan, or fruit pancakes with locally-made maple syrup ($6.50-$9) or a Continental with a sampling of muffins, scones, toast, jam — all housemade — and juice or coffee ($8). We liked the Caribou Eyes ($10), which is “egg in a hole,” huevos rancheros-style: a pair of eggs fried into the center of hollowed-out toast, then dolloped with cheese, sour cream, and salsa.
