"Captain's Anchorage is true Big Bear Staple, with a storied history and consistent high quality food and top notch service. It has old school steakhouse vibes and an amazing bar and kitchen that have been serving hungry locals and tourists alike for decades. The prime rib is always amazing and highly recommended. Making a reservation is definitely reccomended as it can fill up on weekends and holidays in a hurry. Locals know you can get the full menu at the bar which is actually a fun experience for 2 people. It's hard ti do but save room for dessert, the butter toffee cake is awesome and the cheesecake is probably the best in Big Bear. Oh and ask about the ghost..."

"Stopped in recently in the evening, solo with no reservation. There was open seating at the bar as most of the tables were taken.
Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, making small talk and chatting when they heard I had not been here before.
Ordered the prime rib as they said that's what they're known for - meal was excellent. Look forward to trying other dishes in the future.
Would definitely recommend, and will definitely come back next time I'm in town. Staff said calling ahead can help as busyness varies."

"This is a traditional old time steakhouse, with prime rib, NY steak, sirloin, pork chop, clam chowder, among other things and they have a good wine list. They also have a full bar.
Been going to this place since I was a child and my folks would weekend in big bear.
This trip I got the pork chop, it was juicy, tender, flavorful, but not salty, perfectly cooked, with a side of rice pilaf. Wife got the cheese tortellini with shrimp (shrimp was good but for 18$ for four shrimp) in addition to the 30$ tortellini, that's a bit steep. They are large shrimp, but not worth 4+$ each.
This place has not changed, prices have always been high, but the food is usually very good (there was this one time I went and the food sucked, had not gone back for years because of that) but it's all good now.
Our waitress was nice, informative and polite. Service was fast enough, although you should expect a more relaxed dining experience than a fast one, so don't be in a hurry.
I recommend!!"
