Located on Boise’s historic Basque Block in a former warehouse complete with exposed brick walls and wooden rafters, Bardenay is the USA’s first restaurant distillery and specialises in the flavours of the Northwest and handcrafted libations. Featuring a large menu, diners can savour tasty highlights, such as the charbroiled salmon fillet served with sun-dried tomato butter and Caesar salad and the New York steak with blue cheese butter, veal demi-glace, garlic mashed potatoes, and fresh vegetables. A meal would not be complete without one of Bardenay’s signature cocktails like the cantaloupe cooler made with Bardenay vodka, watermelon liqueur, peach, lime, and orange juices — a truly refreshing option.

First there were brewpubs, now here's a restaurant–distillery, where the the fixings for the inventive cocktails, like the Prickly Pear Margarita, are truly house made (Bardenay is a nautical term meaning cocktail). Spacious and wood-rich, the restaurant and bar, in the heart of downtown, adds creative Idaho flavor to bar-menu favorites, from burgers and sandwiches to charbroiled salmon and rum pepper steak. For more than 20 years, Bardenay has been the nation’s first restaurant distillery. Located in an old white house on the historic back block in downtown, the small Idahoan chain with three establishments offers Northwest cuisine and drinks that have been handcrafted. Many of the liquors have been created on site, and during the weekend they offer an amazing brunch menu including French toast, spicy chicken and bacon eggs Benedict, and something different that you won’t stop talking about for weeks!.

Everything at Bardenay is delicious, but they really shine if you love seafood and want to try Idaho’s version of it. They have several options of fish including fish tacos, a charbroiled trout filet and even sea bass gnocchi. Their appetizers are also exceptional and as a cheese lover I’m always torn between choosing the cheeseboard which features a rotating selection of cheese or the Idaho Golden Greek Cheese (pictured above) which is flash fried cheese drizzled with balsamic and tomato jam.

Why can't a restaurant in Boise try something new? It is almost as if the menus from Bittercreek, 13th Street, Solid, Bardenay, Berryhill, Bungalow, City Grill, and half a dozen other restaurants over the last few years just got jumbled up and reprinted. This is the same un-inspired, semi-casual, might-as-well-have-gotten-your-recipes-straight-out-of-Bon-Apetit-in-2001 fare that has plagued Boise ever since the invention of the spinach salad with pear, gorgonzola, and walnuts.

Bardenay is an extremely popular dining spot in downtown Boise and in Eagle (with another location way up north in Coeur d’Alene). The wings they serve here are on a menu alongside dishes that are a bit more upscale than what you’d normally find at a wings place. Even so, their spicy gourmet chicken wings are amongst the most popular and tasty wings in the Treasure Valley.

I was surprised to find just how many cool spots it was home to — Downtown Boise alone boasts seven breweries, 21 cafés, six wine bars, and a distillery. But what struck me the most, besides the sheer number of stylish eateries, was the variety: everything from dive bars with $2 well drinks to fancy cocktail bars with mixologists, and all within easy walking distance.

Bardenay has the locals and out-of-towners covered for every meal and any cocktail. In the spring, summer, and fall months, the Bardenay patio is an open gathering place only one block from The Grove and sharing space on the same block with The Basque Center. The atmosphere is great any time of the day or night, and the food and drink are nothing short of phenomenal.

Just down the road, Bardenay—the nation’s first restaurant distillery—serves up small-batch beers and spirits under one roof. For a hyperlocal pour, Boise Brewing keeps it community-focused with favorites like their rich Black Cliffs American Stout. Bardenay made history in 1999 by becoming the first distiller to operate in a public space. Since then this beloved retaurant continues to grow and offer food that’s unique to Idaho, along with handcrafted cocktails, natch. The perfect casual spot for lunch, dinner, brunch, or just drinks on the patios which sit on the banks of the Boise River.

Downtown (Boise) has a ton of cool places; on the Basque Block you can check out Gernika or Bardenay - Bardenay has an on-site distillery. They make a signature gin and an amazing Martini, they also have a pretty good menu. Or, you can head to the sister property, BitterCreek Alehouse, they have good food but a better beer selection.

Named after an old sailing term for “cocktail,” Berdenay is a great place to stop off for drinks. Specializing in a wide variety of cocktails, Berdenay makes many of their ingredients themselves including distilled vodka. Their dinner menu is equally impressive with some wonderful seafood, steak, and pasta options.

Bardenay is more than just a restaurant—it’s a local distillery that serves up creative Northwest fare in a spacious brick venue. The atmosphere is lively, making it a great spot for hanging out with friends. The menu is diverse, with plenty of options for both food and drinks, all crafted with care.

Bardenay is the closest option to fine dining that you will find within the airport in Boise. It’s widely reviewed as one of the best airport dining experiences. Salads, burgers and fries, tacos, and even seafood, there’s a wide variety of delicious options to choose from at this airport eatery.

I believe the topic of food needs to be discussed for those going to the FIPB. My family likes to dine at places that have been featured on food/travel programs, while on vacation. When my wife received her Master's degree from Arizona State we spent a week doing the TV foodie thing in Phoenix.

Bardenay is one of our absolute spots at any time of day (but they do brunch exceptionally well) and features a wonderful outdoor space!. It’s a lovely spot to dine outside with lots of shade and greenery. It’s one of my go-to recommendations for folks new to or visiting Boise!.

They also have their signature Bardenay Breakfast composed of two eggs made the way you like it served with roasted rosemary potatoes, fresh-cut fruit, choice of bacon, ham, or Basque-style chorizo, and your choice of bread. You also have to try their cocktails and Bloody Marys.

Bardenay is one of my fave places to eat and has everything you could hope for in a happy hour. It's usually pretty quiet, patios, food and drink specials, and it's truly good food and drinks. The Boise location is on the Basque Block has food and drink specials for happy hour.

We try not to put Bardenay on every listicle we put out, but it really is one of the best places in Boise!. With a line of rum, vodka, and most famously, gin, Bardenay is sure to satisfy your taste buds!. Their Bond Martini will have you fly in that bowtie in no time.

Bardenay in Eagle or downtown Boise: Fun fact: This is the first distillery in the U.S.!. The Boise location is in the Basque Block, which a Spanish culture and community. The Eagle location is right on the greenbelt and Boise river, so both are equally great!

There are a few locations in the area where you can enjoy Bardenay’s food and cocktails. We visited the one downtown in the Basque Block and the one at the airport. I hear from my sister that the other location is fantastic as well.

Featuring Bardenay, restaurant and distillery with a top-notch menu and a spacious patio. Next door to Bardenay is The Basque Market, which is known for its Spanish-style pintxos and weekly “paella on the patio” lunch.

On my last night in Boise, a Friday night, I stopped into Bardenay for a drink. Inside, I found a boisterous atmosphere, with people of all ages filling up the large space.

As one of the nation’s first distillery restaurants, Bardenay caters to both adults and kids. The menu has a lot of variety and includes some great kid-friendly options.

The riverside patio is great for enjoying a cocktail or a meal with river views. It’s Idaho’s first restaurant distillery, offering a special mix of food and spirits.

So that being said, it was a really unique thing for the TTB to allow Bardenay Restaurant to distill on premise and then sell our products right over the wall.

With three locations: Boise, Eagle and Coeur d’Alene, Bardenay captures the spirit of Idaho and the Northwest and is a cornerstone of Idaho’s restaurant...
