This local fixture did not open during the 2021 season due to staffing issues; their loyal customers will be thrilled to learn they will be reopening their doors this spring. And for good reason: McSeagull’s (despite their goofy name) not only offers the traditional seafood dinners you’d expect from a waterfront dining establishment in coastal Maine, but they have rounded out their menu quite nicely with things like McSeagull’s Shrimp or Mahi Tacos, and Lobster and Andouille Sausage Jambalaya. Seagulls Restaurant captures the essence of quintessential New England dining. With its panoramic views of the harbor, the restaurant offers a captivating maritime atmosphere that complements its exquisite seafood-focused menu. Guests are treated to an array of locally sourced dishes, from buttery lobster rolls, to freshly caught seafood platters that showcase the bounty of the Atlantic.

McSeagull’s Restaurant is a must-visit destination for seafood lovers. The restaurant offers a variety of signature dishes, including the famous lobster roll made with freshly caught Maine lobster meat and their award-winning clam chowder made with local clams and potatoes. Their seafood enchiladas and fish and chips are also highly recommended by locals and tourists alike.

Definitely get the calamari at McSeagull’s; it’s fresh, flash-fried and crispy, yet delicate. (My mouth is watering as I write.) We first stepped into McSeagull’s to wait out a brief storm that blew in from New York one afternoon. We quickly became well-accustomed to this place after taking a seat at the bar (if any, this qualifies as Boothbay Harbor’s “local’s place”).

A harbor institution, McSeagull’s recently elevated their dining experience with a full renovation. Their expansive deck offers prime views of harbor activities, while the interior features nautical decor that celebrates Boothbay’s maritime heritage. The menu covers all the Maine classics-lobster, fried seafood, chowders-executed with consistency and care.

On our trip in 2021, we enjoyed the Boothbay Harbor landmark, McSeagulls. This tavern and restaurant has a waterfront dining room and bar, and a great well-rounded menu of seafood and traditional fare. In 2021, this was one of our first dining experiences during COVID, and it felt very clean and safe in a sunny, open-air environment.

We enjoyed a classic surf-and-turf dinner with the kids at the popular McSeagull, which overlooks the harbor and hosts live acoustic music on summer nights. Back at Spruce Point Inn, I had a nightcap at Bogie’s, the inn’s casual bar and restaurant, sister to the dressier 88, where we enjoyed the breakfast buffet the next morning.

Another Pier 1 gem, McSeagull’s Restaurant is a favorite among locals and tourists alike. Known for its relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff, this bar offers a variety of local brews and creative cocktails. Pair your drink with their famous lobster roll or clam chowder for a quintessential Maine dining experience.

The bartender was a woman I recognized from back in the day at McSeagull’s. I asked her if she remembered a life-size framed drawing of a nude that hung outside the ladies room. It had been purchased by Joe Williamson, for me, and I often wondered what had become of it after he sold McSeagull’s.

McSeagull’s is a Boothbay classic, serving up Maine seafood, yes lobster, in a casual waterfront setting. “Eat, drink and flounder – just for the halibut” is their cheerful slogan. Former Maine Governor Paul LePage may be your congenial bartender.

Service was great and so was the atmosphere They offer nice selection of gluten free items They are NOT celiac friendly. We shared the Hamburger with gluten free bun and Haddock Tacos with corn Tortillas. I was sick all night from the food.
