What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Brassica Kitchen + Cafe garners praise for its creative, globally-inspired dishes and excellent vegetarian options that impress all palates. The dining experience is often described as fun and flavorful, with many highlighting unique flavor combinations and attentive service. However, some diners have noted issues with excessive saltiness, greasiness, and noisy ambiance, particularly during brunch, with one reviewer finding the fried chicken disappointing.
"Brassica is a truly unique restaurant and cafe. We went for brunch and were met with a warm quirky Brooklyn ambiance with high hopes for the food. We started with two donuts to share- a toasted maple donut and a Boston cream (can’t remember the specific names) but they were absolutely delicious and fresh. We also ordered the fried rice with fried chicken, which was packed with flavor Umami and spice-absolutely incredible. We also ordered the tamales which tasted truly authentic and the impossible burger. However, nothing compared to the hashbrowns, never have I tasted anything so deluxe and cheesy! We were all so satisfied and will come back again.🙏"

"Our group of 4 vegetarians went here and were utterly blown away by the taste. We got biscuits-and-tofu, veg sausage big mac, brunch fried rice, and tamale. Every piece of tofu had an impressively delicate but flavorful breading and the tofu inside was also brined and tasty by itself. This is some of the best food I’ve ever had in Boston of over 50 restaurants I’ve been to, and it was all vegetarian. The gravy on the biscuits was a special highlight, it might be gross but we literally licked the plate clean."

"This was such a fun dining experience! It's a very eclectic array of foods with so many flavors to try. Our server, Josh, said the best way to describe the food they serve was "saucy" and that honestly is true. So many good sauces, with flavors from all over the world! We did The Ride, a fixed menu with 8 plates plus dessert. They were flexible with some dietary needs and our server was fun, knowledgeable, and had fantastic service. We loved trying so many different things and enjoyed some lovely cocktails alongside it all. Such a great spot to try new flavors and have a special date night!"

31 Best Restaurants in Boston
Brassica is the rare restaurant unicorn that offers the best of both worlds: By day it's a cafe slinging earthy espresso and tantalizing pastries ( fun ones like donuts, French-toast bites, and pretzel biscuits) plus sit-down brunch items like fried rice and veggie “sausage” breakfast sandwiches. By night, the dining room switches gear into into an inventive small-plates spot with expertly crafted cocktails, a deeply global wine list, and Asian-inspired creative takes like zippy hamachi and scallop crudos, fiery karaage-style fried chicken (the hot sauce is so special it costs extra), and divine classics like expertly grilled steaks and wood-fired seafood. The open-fire kitchen is truly something to behold, and dictates your order at least a few fired vegetables, or Kean's latest charred creation—whether it's succulent seared cod loin or a fat-rendered ribeye.
The Best Brunch Spots In Boston - Boston
Brassica is the neighborhood bistro that your JP friends (understandably) won’t shut up about. They’ve got a good thing going with an unfussy atmosphere and a devoted fan base, thanks to regular collaborations and special dinner popups with local chefs. The portions here feel a bit random—some dishes, like the egg sandwich, might leave you hungry, while others, like the chicken and waffles, are enough food for one person plus a hungry friend.
Best Bars in Boston: Cool New Places to Drink & All-Time Favorite Spots
Brassica may be particularly pint-sized, but what this Forest Hills venue lacks in size, it certainly makes up for in stiff drinks and vibrant small plates. 11 Places to Find These Sweet Treats
Located across the street from the Forest Hills T station, this hip JP spot serves gourmet coffee and pastries during the day. Be sure to get there early, as these sweet treats usually sell out fast.
Where to Find the Best Chicken and Waffles in Boston
Brassica might be on our list of the best restaurants in Boston, but its brunch menu’s chicken and waffles plate, based on a recipe from a former cook’s grandmother, is fashioned Georgia-style: the waffle batter is made with crème fraiche and cultured cream, so it melts in your mouth at first bite. The boneless chicken thighs, meanwhile, are marinated in buttermilk and a brine of fermented peppers and pickles, then dredged in flour. Brassica is a place known for playing with fermented ingredients, in fact, so it even punches up the plate with a bit of bracing maple umeboshi—plums that are aged in salt, then poached in syrup—as well as a house-made hot sauce of fermented peppers pureed with maple syrup.
