Reviews Summary

Kane's Donuts is celebrated for its massive and flavorful donuts, with a particular standout being its exceptional gluten-free options, which many consider the best in town. Diners praise the quality ingredients and friendly service, though some have noted that donuts can occasionally feel stale if not consumed fresh. Despite occasional crowds, the unique flavors and dedicated gluten-free facility make it a must-visit.

"I came to Kane’s specifically for their gluten free donuts, and I was not disappointed! The chocolate cake donuts were a little on the dense side, but still tasty. I also tried the apple cider donut and the blueberry, which were amazing.

Also I really appreciated the service, the worker changed his gloves when handling the gluten free donuts which was really great.

Overall, I’d definitely recommend Kane’s to anyone looking for delicious gluten free treats!"

Emily Nages

"Wow. Absolutely legit tasty donuts. Amazing! I find it so frustrating how the quality of things seems to keep going down over time... Things just ain't what they used to be. But here? Not so. Kane's is keeping it real with quality that is obvious from the first bite...flour that tastes like real flour, not that cheap grocery store flavor...and sugar that tastes like real sugar, not something else. It would be really impossible to not like this place, the donut here was top of the class."

Ron C

"Treated myself to some donuts on my last morning in Boston and what a disappointment. I was there before nine am and they already felt stale and like day old donuts. The cake donuts were dry as sand. The glaze was okay at best but nothing worth the glowing reviews this donut shop has. Save yourself the calories and skip this place."

Boston’s Best Donut Shops Ranked (2024) | by Ben Lahner

Of what I consider the “boujee” donut shops (Kane’s, Union Square, and Blackbird), Kane’s Donuts takes the cake. Their downtown location lets you enjoy your donut inside their nice shop, outside on the patio amidst the high rises, or on the nearby Greenway. Their donuts are more expensive than the previous shops on the list for not as good of quality (but still great), but they offer a great selection of regular and gluten free donuts.

It’s a heck of a lot easier to roll out of bed in the morning knowing that there’s a doughnut waiting for you once you swat the alarm. Kane’s Donuts, with a Downtown Boston spot as well as two Saugus locations, perks things up with especially robust gluten-free offerings: doughnuts made in a different facility with completely different utensils and oil as the other items on the menu. The flavors are no afterthought, either.

Want a donut or doughnut? These are the best shops to buy them

This modern downtown Boston doughnut shop looks the antithesis of the original mom-and-pop Saugus spot that opened in 1955 (five years after the first Dunkin’). As beloved as ever, you’ll have to choose among 30-plus varieties. Doughnuts are larger than average and old-fashioned types are among the best sellers: yeasty glazed honey rounds, moist Maine blueberry cakes, and chocolate-coated Boston cream-filled.

Boston’s Best Donuts

Upon visiting the Kane’s Donuts website, my expectations were set extremely high because of how cool the shop looked and how perfect the donuts appeared. I regret to inform, especially to the loyal Kane’s customers, that their donuts just didn’t do it justice for me. I tried four flavors, strawberry frosted with sprinkles, coconut with a raspberry jelly filling, “Honey Dip,” and a Boston cream donut.

13 Best Spots For Donuts In Boston

If there's one donut shop pretty much every Bostonian can agree on, it's Kane's Donuts. The first location opened in Saugus, a cozy Northshore town located about 20 minutes north of Boston, in 1955. Husband and wife team Peter and Kay Delios took over the chain in the 1980s, expanding to an additional location in Saugus and another one in Boston's Financial District.
