Naturally, the community suggested they call themselves "The Old McDonald's Farmhouse." Now with a slightly abbreviated name, The Farmhouse serves comfort food, specializing in burgers made with local meat, but the less-homey starters steal the show. Try the beef tartare with housemade potato chips or a carefully-curated local cheese plate. A cocktail menu and an amazing array of craft beers keep the bartenders busy.

This farm to table establishment doesn't disappoint when it comes to comfort food along with an outstanding beer selection. Their homemade Mac & Cheese is made up of many local cheeses, caramelized onions and herb bread crumbs, but you are welcome to customize it any way you like. If you're looking for where to dine in Vermont, the Farm House Tap & Grill is one of the best options around.

The street-level dining room at this Bank Street favorite is fun, but the basement space pretty much sets the template for what a cozy bar should be like. Even just walking down the stairs on a cold night brings a sense of warmth, as if heading toward the hot magma at the center of the Earth is a better idea than hanging out near that frozen precipitation on the surface.

This is a place we just keep going back to, with its lively atmosphere and huge selection of area microbrews. There are tons of good choices on the menu, and even for vegetarians, it can be hard to choose. The cheese platter is always a good starter, though, with offerings sourced from nearby farms, and the fries are the best in town (sorry, Al’s French Frys).

We tried to go to Citizen Cider but didn’t want to wait an hour for a seat so we happily wandered over to Farmhouse and tasted a few of the cider selections while also enjoying an excellent burger and beet salad. We’re huge fans of dry cider and really liked Citizen’s Wit’s Up. Our favorite, though, was Graft Cider Field Day Rhubarb Rosé.

If coffee is your beverage of choice, you have many options in Burlington to find the perfect cup of joe and the perfect queer barista to serve it to you. Uncommon Grounds (42 Church St), August First (149 South Champlain), and Muddy Waters (184 Main St) are the best spots.

The only problem you might have at the Farmhouse is getting a table. They’re super attentive to food allergies, they offer plenty of GF, vegetarian, and vegan options, and it’s consistently excellent. From burgers to cast iron quinoa cakes, you’re all set here.
