Reviews Summary

Misery Loves Co. garners high praise for its innovative American comfort food, exceptional craft cocktails, and unique market finds. Diners rave about the quality of ingredients and creative dishes, with many highlighting the excellent cocktails and desserts. However, some visitors have experienced lengthy wait times for their food, and one review cited an exorbitantly priced and unfortunately burnt fried chicken.

"This place is a gem!! So many great local items, cute gifts and flowers too. The staff was very helpful in finding a perfect wine to take for later. It's easy to get lost in here (not by space, it's small and cozy) as area has so much to see."

Jackie Just

"Decent little market. Items are priced a touch too high though. I only tried the croissants which were quite large and tasted delicious. However, the people working there did see me and my friend and ignored us for five minutes while we waited awkwardly. Maybe it was us that didn't know how to get their attention or they were busy but that was my experience."

Prishank T

"Great little market. They carry a lot of cool snacks and items you don't really see in conventional stores. This shop has some real personality and we got some delicious fresh bread. It often carries hard to find products and food from local businesses and they have fantastic baked goods. It is located right along the Winooski Circle so I suggest parking a few blocks away in a free spot and enjoying the walk. It's stores like this that make me proud to be a Vermonter."

A short five-minute drive from downtown Burlington brings you to Winooski’s rotary, around which cluster spots like Misery Loves Company (inventive farm-to-table cuisine in a stylish yet relaxed setting), Tiny Thai (the aforementioned beloved Thai restaurant known for authentic spice and no reservations), and Waterworks (a dramatic industrial-chic restaurant overlooking the Winooski River falls). While these aren’t within Burlington city limits, many locals consider them part of the greater Burlington dining landscape.

Where to Find the Best Restaurants for a Weekend in Burlington, Vermont

Misery Loves Co. is one of the new originals, now operating as a market and patio (no indoor dining) providing sloppy-good sandwiches, top-shelf drinks, and high-quality comfort food. Sure, they come packaged in plastic these days, but you’ll sip some of Vermont’s best cocktails (we love the smoked-salt-spiked MLC Margarita and the best-in-Vermont Bloody Mary) and snack on a perfect Steak Tartare. Fried Chicken, meanwhile, is cooked to a juicy crisp and served with honey butter.

Fried chicken near me in VT: From Al's French Frys to Hotel Vermont

Finally, after a summer heat wave that seemed to last all summer, we had a comfortable night that enticed my wife and I to the street-side picnic tables at this Winooski favorite. Misery Loves Co. offers its fried-chicken meal family-style, meaning it’s best as a supper built for two. We ordered side veggies (greens and herbs plus tomatillos) that came with our half-chicken cut into seven pieces.
