Reviews Summary

Onyx Tonics is lauded for its exceptional specialty coffee, with many hailing it as the best they've ever tasted. Patrons appreciate the rotating selection of single-origin beans and the skillful preparation by knowledgeable baristas. While the coffee is consistently praised, one reviewer noted an issue with an 'extra dry' cappuccino not meeting expectations.

"interesting cafe in terms of they rotate the beans from different roasters that they use on a weekly basis so if you’re the type of person that likes to try different beans/coffee this is place for you. definitely one of the better specialty coffee places in the area. nice place to study or journal for a bit and just a couple of steps away from all the other shops in downtown on church street."

Minna Luu

"I never tried this place before so I was curious. It’s a laid back & relaxing spot to enjoy a great cappuccino. I love the plants in the window, it’s calming. Once I placed my order they brought my coffee to my table, great Service. The man was very knowledgeable about the coffee choices they had. They also had a couple of baked goods but I didn’t try any. I’ll definitely be back. Merci! 😃"

Nikki Stiletto L.M.

"Really cute little coffee shop. Does give coffee snob vibes but not in a bad way. The barista was very helpful because the menu was confusing. But, the coffee tasted very good and I was highly impressed. And it was not a bad price either compared to other places in the city. I would definitely come back again."

This coffee-tasting bar would satisfy the staunchest coffee aficionado, with its rotating menu of specialty drinks designed to highlight the texture and flavor profile of distinct beans and roasters; so it's not surprising that co-founder Jason Gonzales won a top 10 spot in the 2013 World Cup Tasting Championship (the coffee Olympics). If a coffee education is what you want with your morning cup, Onyx Tonics offers it—thankfully with a friendly and inviting atmosphere—as baristas have been known to warn against adding milk to a certain drip coffee, because it would raise the acidity of the brew and alter its delicate flavor.

One of the speciality shops in Burlington, they have very fancy types of coffee. I got the chicory maple latte, which is made with chicory root and had some nice earthy notes to it. If you haven’t guessed, Vermont has a lot of maple-themed goods, and maple lattes are a standard at most stores and for good reason—I hardly ever order regular lattes now because of how good the maple version tastes.
