Maison shares a low, unassuming King Street building with a climbing gym, but step inside and you’ll find an immaculate invocation of a stylish French bistro. There’s a pewter-topped bar, hexagonal white and black floor tiles and Parisian-style bistro chairs with white and black woven backs. The menu options — escargots, steak frites au poivre, coq au vin — seem to hew to traditional bistro standards at first, but chef Vandy Vanderwarker gives each a creative, flavorful spin.

Maison, a relatively new restaurant in Charleston, has an unmistakably Parisian ambiance with its chic décor, complete with black-and-white tiling and comfortable seating. The bar is a popular spot for a mix of local artists, industry folks, and notables, making it a perfect destination for those looking for a trendy and exclusive dining experience. With a glass of wine in hand, you’re sure to feel like you’re in the know at Maison.

If you’re craving a break from traditional Southern cuisine, stop into Maison, an on-trend French bistro off of bustling King Street. The menu is full of French favorites (steak frites and escargot, anyone?), but pays homage to Charleston’s bounty of fresh seafood and produce, too. Try the steamed flounder or mussel bourride with a heaping side of pommes frites and a tall glass of Laurent-Perrier to feel oh-so-Parisian.

Guest reviews rave about the Monk fish and dessert options, but it’s a good idea to make a reservation ahead of time since the space is cozy. I’ve spent a mere four hours in France after missing a train to Brussels, but Maison’s atmosphere is what I imagine a Parisian bistro would feel like inside. At Maison, moderately loud chatter can be heard at roundabout booths and tables where enthusiastic servers spill dish details before dipping out at just the right moment.

A small french bistro by Vandy Vanderwarker and Will Love, Maison has seasonal menus of complex flavor arrangements with beautifully simple presentation. Come for the $5 champagne happy hour, let the bubbles open up your appetite, and stay for dinner.

A chic French brasserie nestled in Charleston's heart, Maison offers authentic Charleston food and a modern take on classic French cuisine. One of its standout dishes is the roasted chicken Faci, a hearty and flavorful dish featuring tender chicken braised in a rich sauce.

With a warm Parisian vibe, authentic recipes, and a lovely wine list, you'll quickly be in love. It's also still a delightful blend of French and Southern. The black and white ceiling inside and the seating in the garden highlight a few cultural similarities.

This adorable French bistro is one of Kenny and my go-to date night spots in Charleston. I almost don’t want to write about it because it’s an IF YOU KNOW YOU KNOW kind of neighborhood gem. You’ll feel like you’re in France and the food is INCREDIBLE.

Maison is a bistro-style option offering what Conde Nast Traveler described as “deftly executed French classics.” You may not be able to fly your loved one to Paris, but they’ll still say “oooh la la” over the steak and seafood options on the menu.

Maison always impresses with its artsy décor and fun take on French cuisine. They’re only open for dinner, and they are closed on Sundays and Mondays. As such, you’ll want to make reservations to ensure there’s a table waiting for you.

If there’s a good French restaurant nearby, I will sniff it out. Maison serves up some lovely seasonal French dishes in a beautiful space. Reservations are a good idea here as well.

The bistro bills itself as more casual than French fine dining, but it all still feels very much like a special occasion meal. Reservations are recommended and available online.
