Charleston is a very relaxed city, but even so, it’s nice to get out of town and see some of the surrounding wildlife. When that’s the case, make the 20-minute trip to Sullivan’s Island, which is home to a lot of pretty nature and The Obstinate Daughter. This restaurant is only five minutes from the beach and serves everything from pizza and pasta to Lowcountry classics, along with a huge variety of wine and cocktails.

Although famous for its oven-fired pizzas, the pastas and small plates are bursting with creativity and flavor. The seared swordfish “paella,” served with saffron rice, chorizo, mussels, scallops, and shrimp, is a crowd pleaser, and one of the most unique dishes on the menu. But then we happened to drive by around 11am and saw several families eating on the patio in very casual attire, so we decided to have an early lunch.

Everything here is simply fantastic, but the Geechie fries (pictured above) for a starter are a must.

Mount Pleasant has a very poor restaurant scene considering it’s size and location. Even Summerville has passed mount pleasant in terms of restaurants

167 Raw, The Ordinary, The Obstinate Daughter on Sullivan’s Island were some standouts when my wife and I when there before our honeymoon.

Would have loved to lounge longer, but we had lunch reservations at the Obstinate Daughter 2063 Middle St, Sullivan’s Island, SC 29482.
