Vickery’s wasn’t always a part of Shem Creek, but it definitely found its place, especially as the crowds continue to grow. Originally located at 15 Beaufain St. in 1992, Vickery’s opened the doors to its second (and current) location at 1313 Shrimp Boat Lane in 1999. Vickery’s initial menu originated from its flagship location in Atlanta, offering a Caribbean and Cuban-inspired menu, but when owner Jim Stalker and his business partner at the time Sam Weyman wanted to open a location in Charleston, adding more shrimp to the menu was a no-brainer.

Back on the water’s edge and you can find Vickery’s Bar & Grill, a laid back eatery with some of the best views on offer as it’s located at the mouth of Shem Creek. Their Southern-inspired menu is thoughtfully designed with classics like Shrimp and Grits, Crispy Fried Chicken, Lowcountry Boils, Crab Cake Sandwiches, and star of the menu the Seafood Jambalaya. There’s a great beer selection here too, which makes this the perfect place for lazy days when you just want to watch the world go by while eating good food and sipping a beer.

Vickery’s has its roots in Atlanta, but found its home in Mount Pleasant, SC. With tables overlooking the still waters of Shem Creek, Vickery’s 1313 Shrimp Boat Lane Bar & Grill is a place to enjoy a variety of dishes inspired by various culinary influences from other regions and ethnicities. Lowcountry cooking still runs deep at Vickery’s with shrimp and grits and seared crab cakes as staples. But the Cajun influences are strong in their fried crawfish tail and seafood jambalaya.

Vickery’s Bar and Grill was first opened in 1983 with its first location in Atlanta to honor the former building owner Margaret Vickery. In 1999, its second location was opened in beautiful Mount Pleasant. The restaurant overlooks the banks of beautiful Shem Creek, and with water encompassing all three sides, guests are offered stunning views from the restaurant’s seasonal outdoor deck.

Originally based in Atlanta, the owners of Vickery’s ultimately decided to start their cooking journey in Mount Pleasant. And we’re grateful that they did: nowadays, the Shrimp Boat Lane Bar and Grill at Vickery’s is one of the most popular restaurants in town. Cajun influence is easy to taste in the menu, especially the crab cakes and crawfish tail.

Vickery’s– Located on Shem Creek in Mt. Pleasant, Vickery’s has good food, reasonable prices and is totally low-key and casual. The view is amazing – shrimp trawlers come and go all day long, you can walk the docks where they pull in to sell the seafood, there are almost always dolphins to watch and they have the best Bloody Marys in town.

Just as Blackbeard’s men might have shared a dram of rum at The Seafarer’s Tavern (today a liquor store at 120 Broad Street), we’re drawn to the come-as-you-are, workaday welcome at places like Richard’s Bar & Grill in Mount Pleasant (RIP); Gene’s Haufbrau in West Ashley; and the peninsula’s Cutty’s, AC’s, and Moe’s.

Vickery’s is a casual eatery offering indoor and outdoor dining. It’s one of the few that also offer boat dockage for diners on a first come first serve basis. They serve a variety of dishes from seafood to burgers.

For the best views, try Vickery’s, where you can eat out on the deck overlooking the water. Locals will all urge you to try the made-to-order oyster bisque, which won first place at the Charleston Oyster Festival.

If your dog isn’t content to curl at your feet while you enjoy a beer, visit the dockside bar at Vickery’s Wednesday through Sunday. Let your dog explore the sand and walk the dock while you kick back.
