The restaurant is small and cozy, with exposed brick walls, soft lighting which provides a warm golden glow and simple yet elegant decor. Luckily, Good Food gave up its no-reservations policies, meaning there’s no longer a painfully long wait to get a table.

Why we love it:Bruce Moffett, as the story goes, opened his second restaurant, Good Food on Montford Drive after a barista allegedly told him “There’s no good food on Montford.” Moffett proved that saying wrong, and the small plates restaurant has become a classic, with influences from countries like Greece, Korea, Italy and Spain. Must-order dish: Larry’s pork belly buns ($14) the fava bean spread ($12), the scallops ($26) and the red curry mussels ($17). Cost: Starters range from $5 biscuits to $30 charcuterie boards, the pastas (available in half or whole plates) are $24-$30 and large paellas that feed four to six people are $38-$62.

It really doesn’t do justice to call Pot de Crème “a chocolate pudding” anymore than saying “let’s go to Good Food on Montford and get the snack they showed on Cheap Eats Charlotte”, because there is just so much more to both. With regards to the chocolate Pot de Crème at Good Food on Montford, know that you are not getting some chocolate pudding served on a cafeteria tray. You are in fact getting a rich, supple and sensuous dessert that requires precise cooking to ensure a texture that makes Pot De Crème taste like chocolate mousse on steroids.

Head back to the hotel to freshen up (and perhaps take a nap, if you’ve had one beer too many) because you won’t want to miss dinner at Good Food on Montford, an award-winning eatery with a tapas-style menu loaded with flavorful options like crispy fried oysters, five-spice rubbed pork belly and beef carpaccio. You’ll also want to order a drink from their craft cocktail menu. Drinks range from a house smoked bourbon julep to an elderflower pear fizz — there’s something for everyone to sip on.

First off, you really can’t go wrong with anything on Bruce Moffett’s Good Food On Montford and it’s award winning menu. But, since we are talking oysters, you just have to try their fried oysters entree. The soft savory-ness of the black eyed peas and the collards combined with the crunch of the perfectly fried oysters make for some amazing textures and the spectrum of flavor profiles is out of this world.

When Chef Bruce Moffett opened this eatery in 2009, the name was a nod to the dearth of good food in the neighborhood. While that's no longer the case, Good Food is still worth a visit for its globally influenced small plates, which draw inspiration from locations as varied as Italy and Korea. Try the steamed buns, made with five-spiced rubbed pork belly, hoisin, and pickled vegetables.

This casual spot is very popular, so reservations are a good idea if you want to enjoy great food at Good Food on Montford. With a menu focused on sharable food like the small plate of Korean Beef or the large plate of Paella that serves four to six people, grabbing a meal with friends at this casual but sharp restaurant is always a good idea.

Maybe this is a controversial pick, since this Montford restaurant is newer than a lot of these places. Located within a stone’s throw of the Moosehead Grill, I think it opened up in my fourth or fifth year of being here (maybe it is 16 years old). Still, if someone asks for an Iconic Charlotte restaurant, this is what I think of.
