Reviews Summary

Calliope Restaurant & Bar is lauded for its innovative Levantine cuisine and outstanding service, creating a memorable dining experience. Diners rave about the unique flavor profiles and attentive staff, although some note that prices are on the higher side.

"I’ve been wanting to try this place for a long time! As a vegetarian, they have so much for me to enjoy. We went for happy hour and enjoyed their Mezze Plate and two glasses of wine each. The staff was amazing, the bar staff answered so many questions for me about the food I was eating. The only downside I would say is that their prices are on the higher side, but I feel that they were justified."

"Left here totally blissed out. We took a weekend roadtrip from Knoxville to experience Calliope after they were voted into the Top 50 Restaurants in USA by the New York Times, and it was worth the whole trip. We enjoyed flavor profiles we’ve never experienced before and will be daydreaming about until our return. The jammy figs in the whipped feta dish knocked us off our feet, and our waitress said the figs were grown by her friend up the road, which I loved to hear. The blackened grouper was seasoned with spices that tasted like Christmas, and somehow worked perfectly for a savory dish. We tried a Lebanese wine, which we’ve never had before, and it paired perfectly with everything. Every dish we had (7 in total including dessert) was just perfection. Loved the building as well, and the scruffy side of town it’s in. Thanks for one of the best meals of our lives y’all. Feeling very grateful."

"The food takes center stage at Calliope! We came for the first time for our anniversary. We tend to love Mediterranean and Middle Eastern fare, so modern Levantine was straight up our alley!

The staff was warm and welcoming. Everyone was knowledgeable about the food. Our waiter was attentive but didn't hover. The atmosphere was cost and familial.

Now for the food...amazing! We had the Sofra for two. The first course was a wonderful spread of dips served with pita. The best was muhammara - hazelnuts and peppers mashed into chunky paste. It's that good!

The second course was an entire fall off the bone lamb shank with fried potatoes and yogurt dip. Then dessert was a knafeh - perfectly crunchy and creamy with just a hint of sweetness.

Great selection of drinks, including seasonals and non-alcoholic options."

Chattanooga is also known for its international flavors, such as Calliope Restaurant & Bar to the south of the river on East Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard. Headed by Chef Khaled AlBanna, the restaurant serves up some of the best Levantine cuisine in the region; the chicken shawarma and fluffy whipped feta are particular highlights. And just five minutes north of the Lookout Mountain Incline Railway, adventurers with an appetite should stop into Han Mi to wrap spicy tteokbokki in pillowy panjeon before tucking into spicy drums of Korean fried chicken; spice levels span from traditional sweet and savory soy garlic to slightly spicier Mongolian Eradicator, to Emotional Damage.

18 Best Restaurants In Chattanooga, Tennessee

This "modern Leventine" restaurant by chef Khaled AlBanna is one of the city's best places for dinner that feels special, both in terms of food and atmosphere, without being stuffy. Start with a variety of dips like silky smooth hummus and labneh and plenty of house made pita, which arrives at the table puffy and hot. Then, choose from a tempting array of seasonally-inspired dishes, like chicken with hot salsa, cucumber yogurt, and kabsa; roasted beets with red onion, pickled radish, peanut dukkah, and goat cheese; or a whole snapper with harissa, chili, and cabbage slaw.
