Reviews Summary
Calamity Jane's Kitchen is praised for its delicious and innovative breakfast options, excellent coffee, and charming, rustic atmosphere that makes diners feel welcome. While many enjoy the food, some have experienced long wait times and less attentive service during busy periods, though the quality of the food is consistently highlighted as a strong point.
"I stopped in this cute little restaurant that serves breakfast lunch and dinner I went for breakfast. It was off gourmet breakfast. We had the power omelette, which was absolutely delicious. The coffee was excellent all different styles for whatever you needs are and some of the choices for breakfast. You could also have lunch. We’re incredible. Can’t wait to go back for dinner or lunch or both you won’t be disappointed. I got the power omelette and the avocado toast. Can’t wait to go back for a walleye sandwich. I also had the ground sausage patty, which was homemade one of the best patties I’ve ever had.
Don’t miss this place. It’s worth the drive."

"I have come to the cute coffee shop many times. There was a remodel which makes the seating awkward for a walk in coffee order situation. They have added booths which gives it more of a restaurant feel. This isn’t bad but the seating at the end of the bar is blocked by an unused hostess stand and this makes for a nice place to not feel awkward when waiting for coffee, but it is no longer and options.
There have been changes in how people are seated and it is a now grab a menu and seat yourself situation. I came in to eat today and grabbed a menu and sat down. I was never approached. I finally went up to order a coffee to go and decided to ask if I could also order food. I believe his name is Alec. He is always very kind even when everything is behind. He asked if I wanted it served to the table I came from. At no fault of his I was already frustrated and wanted it to go. I don’t want to hang out inside the restaurant awkwardly standing around table of people trying to sit down and eat so I leave for a bit and come back in when I notice many others leaving with their food. My food never comes up so I ask the only person who is not Alec if she knew what the wait time in food was. She replied “I don’t know I don’t know what you ordered.” Which was not my question. I once waited 45 minutes for a bagel and cream cheese because the cooks make orders in order, so I was just curious. She walked back to where they set the food and it was sitting there. I felt the food and could tell it had been sitting there for a while.
The food here is phenomenal and there are plenty of flavors for your caffeine fix. But the only time I have had a timely experience with food is when I was the first person to show up one day."

"What a cute little spot in Custer!! The breakfast sandwich is the way to go- generously sized and delicious! Don’t miss the mimosa flight- I didn’t have a single one I didn’t love and it’s a great deal! This is a wonderful gem, be sure to stop in if you are in the area! The back patio is SO cute and beautifully painted and perfect to bring your pups along! Thank you for being dog-friendly! 💜"

Calamity Jane’s Kitchen was once the home of Frontier Photo, a photography studio in Custer. After that era ended, new owners came in and transformed the building into a cozy coffee shop. As if things couldn’t get any better, the building was bought yet again, and a grill was added to serve burgers and sandwiches.

Calamity Jane is one I always mention because I love the ambiance and options on the menu. There are plenty of places to sit down for a break or a meal. They also stay open later than any of the other coffee places in Custer.
