What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Potager is widely praised for its exceptional farm-to-table dining experience, with diners consistently highlighting the freshness and quality of ingredients. The cozy atmosphere, particularly the backyard patio, and attentive service are frequently lauded. While many find the food outstanding, a few reviewers noted that the taste, while good, wasn't always as 'outstanding or special' as anticipated.
"The food was amazing, one of the best dinners we’ve ever had. Highly recommend the flatbread and salmon if they’re on the menu. Everything looked so great we didn’t even get pictures of most of it. The staff was great especially our amazing waitress Alison who was super helpful in picking out which wines would go best with our meal. This place is a must go!!"
Marla R
"Food was well presented and creative. Service was also decent. However the actual taste of the food was good but not outstanding or special as I had hoped."
Martin L
"Best dining experience in Denver.
Dishes were flavor forward -- the freshness of each ingredient was notable -- and everything was well seasoned.
The souffle and chocolate mousse were both DIVINE."

Capitol Hill neighbors who'd frequented Potager since it opened in 1997 were worried when founder Teri Rippeto sold it in early 2019. But their fears have been allayed by the restaurant's continued dedication to locally sourced, seasonally driven ingredients under current owners Paul and Eileen Warthen and Nik Brand. Potager was a bellwether for a style of cuisine that's become almost cliché, but few new restaurants are as good or as devoted to simple, honest cooking with premium ingredients, and the back garden may be the most peaceful place in Denver to enjoy a meal.

Potager (meaning ‘garden kitchen’) is just that – a little garden restaurant that serves a seasonal, garden-driven menu in a rustic setting. Chef Teri Rippeto's menu is a perfect example of cooking and eating in concert with the seasons, where dishes are prepared with locally sourced, market-fresh ingredients (produce is listed along with the name of the farmer on the menu). Choices include lamb meatballs, pan-roasted mahi-mahi, and wood-fired herb chicken, with sides like roasted farm radishes, soufflé, and spring greens and nettle minestrone.

Best farm to table restaurants in Denver [ranked by local expert]
Potager, which means kitchen garden in French, opened in 1997 in Denver's Capitol Hill area. The founders, a father and daughter, noted the theme of the restaurant is not about a particular type of cuisine (though there are French dishes on the menu) but about locally sourced and seasonally driven foods. "We've stitched together a network of suppliers that we know personally and whose concerns are similar to our own," they said at the start.
