Formerly located in the Western suburb of Clive, Table 128 has been transplanted. As of its reopening in May 2024, it’s thriving downtown. Chef-owner Lynn Pritchard is famous for his so-good-we-could-swim-in-them soups, a Brussels sprouts salad that has converted countless picky eaters, and the soft, buttery mini sea salt-chocolate cookies that are delivered warm at the end of every meal.

A Downtown DSM standout in the restaurant scene, Table 128 is a culinary experience with farm-to-table cuisine and a warm, inviting atmosphere (pictured above). The much-loved restaurant located in the Grays’ Landing neighborhood puts a focus on small wine producers, allowing the seasonality of the food menu to lead the offerings included on their wine list. The Table 128 team works directly with winemakers to source selections of new and exciting varieties of wine to curate an exceptional list of by-the-glass and by-the-bottle options.

Get ready for two new restaurants from Lynn Pritchard including the return of the beloved Table 128, while a modern steakhouse from Dominic Iannerelli promises to bring a local approach to surf and turf with an oyster bar and open-hearth grill. Look for Japanese shabu-shabu, two Korean fried chicken restaurants, and Korean hot pots, while Vietnamese cuisine expands to the East Village. A martini and small plates restaurant moves into larger space and a brunch restaurant expands to West Des Moines.

Some restaurants today still feature female partners — Star Bar, Table 128, Irina’s, all the Dark Side of the Spoon restaurants, and Manhattan Deli are headed by husband and wife partners. Lola’s Fine Kitchen is headed by brother and sister — Hannah Elliott and Taufeek Shah. Their inspiration is the Pakistani and Filipino cuisines of their parents.

Though the city’s growth has been a boon to the food and drink culture, Sarah Pritchard, co-owner of Table 128, says it’s also caused a few growing pains. One such challenge, she says, is finding enough food and beverage professionals to keep pace.

Table 128 Bistro Bar serves American eclectic cuisine with locally grown produce. They focus on elegance, flavor, and simplicity in a comfortable environment. Rosemary and parmesan fries, heirloom chicken breast, and lamb rack are on the menu.

After opening in 2013, Table 128 has become a staple for locals and tourists alike. The upscaled American food is full of flavor and fresh ingredients. If you want something light, try an option from the soup and salad menu.
