BREW, Steamworks Brewing, Ska Brewing, Animas Brewing, and Carvers Brewing have been the regulars since they're based right in Durango. (Though, BREW is now closed.) In 2018, the line has additionally invited Four Peaks Brewing (Tempe, Arizona) and Left Hand Brewing (Longmont, Colorado) to join the trek.

There’s a good variety of options too depending on what you’re looking for, ranging from casual spots like Steamworks Brewing Company, The Irish Embassy Pub, Fired Up Artisan Pizza and Mountain Taco & Tequila to more upscale places like Ken & Sue (Asian fusion), Seasons (modern American) and Ore House (old-style steakhouse). There’s also a new food truck-style collective eatery called the 11th Street Station, which attracted quite the crowd enjoying the live music despite the cold. We ultimately decided on Eolus Bar & Dining after encountering a local couple on the street who claimed it was the best restaurant in town.

Being that Steamworks Brewing Company is located directly off of Historic Main Street and is wildly popular among both tourists and locals alike, we recommend joining their waitlist if you are planning on having lunch or dinner there. Pretty much everything on their menu is quite tasty, but we would recommend ordering their Southwestern Burger with Cajun Fries if you are looking for something savory that packs a little punch. With that, be sure to order the Colorado Kolsch; which is the perfect pairing that will cool off your taste buds a bit.

Durango is home to six quality breweries: Animas Brewing Company with its Kolsch and soft pretzel allure; BREW Pub & Kitchen, which was built on an Indian burial ground and offers the best seat in the house for viewing the train returning from Silverton; Carver Brewing Company, Colorado’s second oldest brewpub and Durango’s best brunch; Durango Brewing Company, the North Side’s brewery; Ska Brewing, the 22-year-old industry standard for craft beer; and, finally, group-friendly dining spot, Steamworks.

A local favorite and has been a staple in the Durango community since 1996, Steamworks Brewing Company is a downtown brewpub that offers a casual atmosphere with an extensive menu of classic American cuisine and a variety of handcrafted beers. They pride themselves on using locally sourced ingredients in their dishes and have won numerous awards for their craft beers. Steamworks also has a spacious outdoor patio perfect for enjoying a meal or a beer in the beautiful Colorado weather.

Spend the day in town, and in the evening, head to one of the microbrews in town, such as Steamworks, Ska Brewing, or Durango Brewing, and for dinner, check out the Diamond Belle Saloon inside the historic Strater Hotel. Costumed bartenders, dance hall girls, and live music sit alongside a menu that offers both refined dishes (Nicoise salad with Colorado trout) and down-to-earth offerings (smoked pork nachos). There are even gunfight reenactments from June to early October.

Craft beer drinkers can grab a cold one at Carver Brewing or Steamworks Brewing. Indulge in fine dining in an Old West atmosphere at the Ore House or enjoy a variety of cuisine offered by 11th Street Station’s food trucks. Don’t forget to stop at the Diamond Belle Saloon, revered as one of the most famous original ragtime piano bars in the Wild West, and El Moro Spirits & Tavern, site of “Durango’s Strangest Shootout” in 1906 between the sheriff and the city marshal.

Steamworks Brewing Company started in 1996 in downtown Durango and has brewed award-winning beers such as their Colorado Kolsch, Steam Engine Lager, Third Eye PA, Conductor IPA, and the chile infused Prescribed Burn. Accompanied by their gastropub food menu and centrally located, this is one of Durango’s largest eateries welcoming the whole family. The second brewpub to open since the prohibition, Carver’s Brewing Co. was founded by the two Carver brothers in 1988.

This year’s downtown Durango venues include Azul Gallery, Sorrel Sky Gallery, Rochester Hotel Courtyard, Steamworks Brewing Company’s Patio, Silk Sparrow, Lively Boutique, Overland, Cocktails and Creations, Four Leaves Winery, and Urban Market’s newest location, to name a few. The event will feature hundreds of wines throughout the locations and light appetizers.

Because you are in Colorado and will probably want to try a local brewery, I suggest going to Steamworks Brewery in Downtown Durango for lunch or happy hour. Steamworks: Another family-friendly Durango staple that also gets busy, so get there early!. Steamworks will have a line out the door most nights if you wait too late – it has a sort of bar/brewery vibe inside, so is a little louder but perfect for eating out with young kids.

We visited Steamworks Brewing Company on NFL Sunday and what a treat it was. We got front-row seats to the game we wanted, killer deals on pitchers of craft beer ($11), and amazing food!. To say it was one of our top things to do in Durango, CO is an understatement!

We also went to Carvers Brewing Company (I love their patio with swings) and Steamworks Brewing Company, a place we usually eat. Ryan recommends their blue cheese burger with their chili ale.

This Durango mainstay won a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival for its light, fruity Colorado kolsch. It’s also got a full menu—the chimichurri steak is awesome.

My order would be: Ska, BREW, Steamworks, Carver and then I haven't been to Animas. Start on the south end of town if you want the good stuff.
